Paint job on M2
Anyone else experience sub-par paint job on their M2? Specifically on the inside jam opening where hinges are located, on the fender side. I've noticed some cars have not been painted fully and you can still see primer etc. Just curious, let me know. Thanks

My car is AW and is perfect. In fact in terms of finish this is the best BMW I've owned with no orange peel whatsoever.
There is evidence of a base coat finish on the inner wing when the door is opened half way and under the ' hood ' but I believe BMW stopped fully painting all panels a while back. Perhaps darker colours show more imperfections ? |

Any photos? I would expect if this is an issue with the M2 it would be an issue with all or many of the 2 series cars. I doubt that what you are seeing is primer, it might be base coat without clear on it or perhaps a sealant or adhesive. If you have seen the video of how the cars are painted and then inspected it doesn't seem very likely for this to happen.

Yep, inside of my door jams are terrible, noticably not painted.
Agree on AW, had it on my previous Beemer, paint was flawless and had only one small stone chip after 3yrs of driving so way more durable. |

It's actually the inner sides of the front fenders, not the actual doors, pretty poor imo but not uncommon it seems: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1153604 Here is a pic of the same spot on an M3: Last edited by Prodigy.; 09-10-2016 at 07:12 AM.. |

May these are cars that have been repaired at the VPC, probably damaged during shipping. There's no way they came out of the factory like that!

Confident that my car wouldn't have this issue, I just took a look. Sure enough, paint coverage is very poor. I'm floored. In my experience, only a repaired car would look like this.

Mine is very similar to the pictures posted. Am I the only one that doesn't really care though??

It also appears the darker colours appear more affected, either that or the undercoat is just more noticable. |

Checked mine this afternoon. Not quite as much bareness but definitely some in there. Long Beach Blue as well. Doesn't really bother me though very hard to notice unless you're looking for it but certainly not great.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Very odd issue. I will have to see what mine looks like when it arrives. Not the biggest deal in the world but it is odd and bit of a letdown for a premium vehicle.

I think what you're looking at is the gray rust prevention coating on the inner surface of the front fenders, and is actually a feature of premium vehicles and not a defect. I think you'll find the same coating on the inner surface of the door panels and other hidden areas. The first time I saw this coating was on the inner fender surface of my 2008 Chrysler Crossfire, and it surprised me then, as I thought it was an area of missing paint, but in fact was never intended to be painted. My BSM M2 has the same gray coating that the previous photos show.
