E92 battery issue
335i does not start. Battery low icon on dash. Shows codes p2acc and p2deb. Came to dealer for a new battery however I'm not sure if it's the actual battery since I heard of a bad connector recall? Was told by parts desk that if I install the battery myself I cannot get warranty. So I'm not sure what to do? Any alternatives to buying the battery from the dealer? Also I know that the battery must be coded. Any information/help is appreciated.
Thanks! |

Check your vin for recalls. Also, take your battery to somewhere that load tests them for free. And don't pay dealer prices. Any new battery will come with a warranty.

Im not sure about the recall, but the only reason BMW dont offer the warranty as you mentioned is because bmw want to charge you crazy money for reprogramming the battery. Just get your battery tested and if needed get your own battery and make sure to get that new battery registered by bmw or a local shop to avoid future problems.
good luck http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=804545 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=473109 |

not to sure, but if my memory is right that cable is probably use by bmw during delivery or service of the car unless you unplugged it from the dristributor box.

Thank you guys for all the help. I spent about 20 minutes looking to connect that little delivery cable. Car is starting now. 200$ for the battery (3 year warranty) now to code it or not? I most likely will to be on the safe side.

If you replaced it with the same type of battery and ampere-hour (Ah) you just need to register it with INPA or Tool32 and reset the charging histogram with INPA.
If you changed the type of battery (I.e. flooded to AGM) or Ah, then you will need to VO code the retrofit, in addition to the registration and histogram reset.

I hope you remember what kind of battery you had previously (White cased shell means non-AGM / Black cased shell means AGM). Also do you remember what the AH and RC values were stamped onto the battery? Do you have a linky to the replacement battery so we can help you determine if you need to have the car battery coded and/or registered if a different charging profile is required? Do you have INPA or access to a coding cable? |

Just go to an independent BMW technician and he can register it for you for a small fee.
Not registering it for a while is no big deal but don't wait months try to get it done before the end of the year. All it is doing now is charging at a higher rate than needed but the IBS will see it getting the right voltage and send that to the DME which will cut the charge rate back. The charge algorithm will be off some and getting it coded will help your battery life. It just isn't all that big a deal unless you fry the IBS which I am sure you didn't. By the way unless you have a special E92 and I can;t tell what year yours is it was most certainly effected by the battery cable to back of the fuse box recall... I would ask the service writer what years and what models were not effected... |

--- March 2013 Recall Campaign No. 13V-044: Power Supply System Dear BMW Owner: This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. BMW AG has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain Model Year 2007-12 1 Series, 3 Series and Z4 vehicles. Our records indicate that you are the owner of a potentially affected vehicle. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM This Recall involves the vehicle power supply system. The connection between the positive battery cable and the fuse box can wear over time. If the wear is excessive, then in most cases, this can cause a break in the electrical connection and create a non-starting condition in the vehicle. In certain cases, it can also cause a momentary flickering of the display in the instrument cluster or a momentary (less than one second) engine shut down. The electrical system may also be completely interrupted during vehicle operation, and result in engine stalling and a loss of various vehicle systems that could increase the risk of a crash. DESCRIPTION OF REPAIR The positive battery cable connector will be replaced with an improved version. The actual repair will require approximately two hours; however, additional time may be required depending on the BMW center’s schedule. This work will be performed free of charge by your authorized BMW center. |

Glad you had a simple fix. I replaced my battery about 4 weeks ago and am already getting low battery notices... never totally died on me, though.

So I have not yet coded/registered the new battery. Have been busy with work. Car is not a daily driver so it's been sitting in the garage for the most part. Yesterday I took it for a spin for about 1 hour. Everything seemed fine till I got back home and once the engine was off I sat in the car for about 4 minutes and got a low battery icon on the display again. Also I noticed that when unlocking the vehicle the halo and tailights were not turning on as they should when it's receiving proper charge? This has to do with registration I'm thinking?
