Final step of heat management - Downpipe heat blanket install DIY
Here we are, lets go 2022! First DIY of the year, as I finish out my heat reduction suite of installs into my M2 Competition! This guide could be used really on any car, but I wanted to complete the whole setup for this set.
The more heat you can keep in your exhaust, away from the engine bay, intakes, and cold side of your turbo the better! Faster exhaust gasses, cooler intake temps, more heat heading out the back rather than lingering in the engine bay means more power. All of these changes add up incrementally, bringing down IATs and keeping the heat where it should be, in the exhaust gases. Make sure to check out the other stages, including the turbo blankets and intake wraps, but wanted to finish up with the Funk Motorsport exhaust blankets on my downpipes. The install itself isn't hard, plus if you are changing out your pipes, do it at the same time and then the install is EASY! A few simple tools and some time, and you can get this done. This is also a great way to insulate your factory DPs or if you got aftermarket that were not ceramic coated.
