QSE 5w40 is fine too, saves you the money because for some reason pennzoil is hard to find in the states vs. QSE.

Here in Canada we have PPE, QSE, and moto master (Canadian tire oil - but also rebranded PPE because Canadian tire comissioned shell to make them euro oil) as a selection. However prices even at their lowest is a bit more than in the USA ($28 CAD for a 5L jug vs. $19 USD for a 5L jug).
It's the same oil correct ⁉️

I can get it at Walmart

It's dirt cheap too

Yes same oil, yeah save your money no need to go out of your way so the bottle can say pennzoil. QSE is the same thing at walmart.

Also a side note, in 2018 bmw changed ll01 specs, so even if you have an old bottle of m power 0w40 that ll01 no longer applies to it. So that oil will now void your warranty if you use it. So in 2016 they discontinued 0w40, and in 2018 with the spec change they obsoleted it.

ECS sold me the "really great" 5W-30 Shell stuff as part of an S55 oil change kit, so that's what's going in on Friday. At 10k at the dealership, it's back to the current 0W-30. I really don't care, my car doesn't get tracked or driven particularly hard, except on BMWCCA cruises, and even then, only briefly and not super hardcore. I'm sure the 0W-30 stuff is quite sufficient for the duty the car sees from me.

On a very loosely-related note - I'm on my 2nd Golf R. My first one had the Haldex diff fluid changed at its 30k service and the dealer didn't refill it, causing it to eat itself shortly thereafter. The dealer owned up to the mistake and covered the cost of replacement - over $5k in parts alone. 3 years later, I'm in a newer Golf R and just had the 30k service done, at the same dealership. They have treated me so well that I will continue to use them. Had a nice chat with the service manager when dropping the car off - he remembers me and the incident quite well. When I picked up the car, I was told "the shop foreman did your service today". Should be smooth sailing this time.

Chances are if it is shell, it is damn good stuff, of course there is a range of how good one shell product is vs. another. Since it is a 30 weight I think it is mid range shell (however if this is their 5w30 they used for bmw's TPT oil then it is very very very very very good) vs. the top end stuff which is their 40 weight. Shell and their GTL technology is unbeatable for street and light track applications - harder track useage might need pao or ester base stocks for better thermal tolerance.

Nothing to complain about, really. Here in Croatia 5L of Motul Excess gen 2 5w40 is about USD60
