Probably to reduce glare. That was a big complaint with the older cars.

That being said, they definitely should've made the matte finish on the LCI gauges more durable.

remove scratches

Under most lighting the scratches are gone but in heavy glare situations you will notice that the matte finish is gone from where the buffing is done.

However, I rather have that then the scratches in your face most of the time.
what did you use to remove scratches and then polish. I have fine scratches on my x2 clocks like yours and doing my head in

Id love to know how you removed the scratches... I used a new, super soft microfiber cloth to try and remove some dust and it gave me a fucking HUGE gash like wolveriene fingered that cunt..... so pissed.

Novus plastic polish kit and a lens cleaning cloth then another cloth to remove left over polish haze. Didnt need to use Novus number 3.

I feel we are confusing subjective softness with actual hardness.

A MF towel feels soft but how hard is the polymer it is made of? If it is harder than the butter they use on the screen it will scratch.

So IF you have to touch it with a cloth the question is what is actually the softest material from a hardness scale point of view?

Any regrets knowing it's a bit different now?

Def worth it for me. Look at my pics for the difference in regular lighting b4 and after. I rather fix scratches showing in regular lighting n sacrifice the matte coating. In heavy glare situations the matte surface barely does anything anyways.

Anyone tried this? https://nperform.com/products/bmw-f2...40647578484889

My cluster is badly scratched and I’m thinking of trying this to see if it makes the scratches less visible

It sounds like removing the cluster and using Novus 1 & 2 seems to be the solution to removing the micro scratches, correct?

I’m aware that this will remove the matte coating. However, the area over my Speedo and Tac are so caked with micro scratches from the dealer that I can barely see through it when there’s sun glare anyway. It drives me nuts.

Yeah acl26 did it and shared pics. Not sure if anyone else has used Novus though.

His results do look great. I'm probably going to end up going for it, myself. But I'd love to hear if anyone else has taken the plunge and can share their thoughts on sun glare after removing the scratched coating.

If not, I'll probably be the next guinea pig. But I'm still a bit nervous, despite the scratches staring me in the face, every time I drive.

Amazing! Very curious to hear your results. If the glare isn't notably worse in direct sun light, this really may be the best solution to the issue.

Those protective films/layer meant for a screen that are cut to fit.... can they be used for these? Just wondering.

These scratches look f*gly. I understand the frustration. Would drive me insane.

if the plastic shield can be removed for polishing, can't it be replaced w/ a new part?

Is it as easy as removing the 2 top screws and pulling out??

I'd answer my question. looks like cluster's a whole unit according to real OEM.

Do you have an M2 or M2C?
And planning to first remove scratches?
