That's the beauty of an M car. They're both usable day to day, and you can take them out on the track, and when you're done, drive it back home.

There was no place, anywhere, where you could buy a 2011 1M for $46k. A 135i yes, a 1M no. In my neighborbood, dealer had it marked for $59k and I believe they sold them for close to that.

Base MSRP for an M4 is 65K (60K for ED). So, I'd say a base M2 should be in the 55K (hopefully 50K for ED) range.

is predict $52-54k. I don't think BMW will intend to overstep into M3/M4 territory.

Given the 1M coming in at 47k bare bones, and the M235 is 44K, you would have to guess that 51-52 is the bare minimum that they would start at...
Hopefully it doesn't go much higher than that, but 55 with destination and heated seats would be my guess...

The R&D cost of the 4 cylinder they're developing is being shared with the X1M according to Scott26
That should mean that prices should not be much higher than the 1M adjusted for inflation.. I think 49-50 base |

The M2 is going to be made to compete with the Benz CLA AMG and RS3. As we already know, the CLA starts at $48k. The 1M started at $47k. I see the M2 starting no more than $49k-$50k range. $5k-$6k over the M235i makes a lot of sense.
There's no way it will start around the $55k+ range. BMW would lose a lot of market if that were to be the case and they are smarter than that. |

Now I will have to start considering other options. No way will I be spending M coin on a 4 cylinder. And screw the X1M, I never understood the point of performance SUVs...

Yup, exactly. We know the M3 starts at $62k with leather and navigation. The M2 will definitely not have nav and probably no leather either (standard). This means that if the M2 is priced at $55k it will be way too close to the M3 starting price. I think $50k would be perfect, but it could go as high as 52-53k. |

300 hp 4 cyl, place your bet now. M2 will be very light definitely under 3,200 lbs so it will still be faster and better handling than the M235. No way will it be a 6 when the future is smaller engines. CAFE goes to 54 mpg in 10 years so they have to wean us off 8's and 6's.
