X3M Competition on track?

Alright, flamethrowers down— I know the X3M has its own forum. But I like our M2 forum and have always appreciated your insight.

So.... is the X3M going to be allowed on track for HPDEs? I'm pretty sure they allow the Macan at PCA events (though I've never actually seen it happen).

Up here, the local BMWCCA chapter doesn’t allow SUVs, but Audi Club (not sure if this is local or national)maintains a list of SUVs that are explicitly allowed, and with some limitations, such as no R-Compound tires. You’ll need to ask the club you want to run it with.

Probably has more to do with insurance policy compliance than vehicle capability. A friend ran his Q5 3.0t for a while as a novice and was having as much fun as anyone else, it seemed. Give it a go if they’ll let you.

I've seen an X6 with one of the clubs I ran with, though I couldn't understand why. Sure, you can do it, but it will wear hard on tires and brakes. Plus a Miata might be more fun and more educational.

Anyway, different clubs different rules for high center of gravity cars. Best check ahead of time.

Mr. CrashFL,

Yes, the BMW NCC (National Capital Chapter) in the last year or so has allowed the following. The X5M and X6M are currently not allowed. I believe a number of other BMW CCA chapters are now allowing certain SAV/SUVs as well.

"-Compact SUVs, including BMW X1, X2, X3, X3M, X4 and X4M. Porsche Macan, Mercedes GLA & GLC, and Audi Q3 & Q5 are permitted in the Novice (D) and Lower Intermediate (C) run groups only"

On a side note, I was able to go for a ride in the X3M Comp last year on the Patriot course at VIR, by a Michelin driver. It was unreal, what an amazing machine!
