If you see videos from Manual M4´s you can see clearly that it shows the current gear and not the stupid gear reccomendation,

I believe this could be coded in the M2C too, and it would be GREAT

Yes, EU M2C have no option to disable the "gear recommendation".

I used Esys to re-enable the option like it is in the US, then just turn it off!

And you get the actual gear engaged or just a blank panel?

Mines a manual gearbox, so no actual gear of course.

Hello guys,
I know this is the M2 forum, but I didn't find this information anywhere else.
Does anyone know, if this coding to switch off the gear indicator is also available and works with iDrive 7 ? I want to get rid of it in a G21.
Thanks.

Hi everybody

Yesterday, BMW updated my M2C software (mandatory in Europe : general recall) from i-step F20-18-07-547 to i-step F20-20-11-520, and of course, I lost all my own coding.
I successfully recoded all with e-Sys (PSdZdat V4.26.22) except the stupide “gear shift indicator” that I could not delete.

Here after the update for those who have DCT gearbox exclusively.

Here what is displayed with stock M2C DCT (in Europe at least) when using the gearbox manually with the shift paddles :

As you can see, at 1500 rpm, your car already recommend you to upshift from 1st to 2nd gear and so on until the 7th gear.
The picture shows efficient mode but you’ll see the same stupid recommendation in sport or sport+

As described upper in this thread, the key-code (SPA_IST-GANG_ENABLE) to make this horror disappear is in the KOMBI module which is unfortunately trimmed.

Initially SPA_IST-GANG_ENABLE was 3000_1_1_64 but changing this line was inefficient with the new i-step.
Thanks again to OKCZ who found that SPA_IST-GANG_ENABLE is now 3003_0_0_16 : set it to “nicht_aktiv” and you’ll get rid of this stupidity. Only current gear is now displayed :

No need to change SPA_CHECKBOX (in HU) nor SPA_KOMBISELECT_DISABLE (in KOMBI). They are useful only for MT gearbox.

Hi there,

I tried once before to deactivate this stupid indicator function but there was a coding error which scared the shit out of me. Luckily i just used a backup code to restore the settings

Can i ask just to confirm. "SPA_IST-GANG_ENABLE is now 3003_0_0_16 : set it to “nicht_aktiv”" is all that needs to be done?
If so, ill give it another go tmr. Lol

Much thx!

If you have DCT gearbox, yes.
Note that I used e-Sys and not Bimmercode, your problem may be related to a mismatch between your I-Step level compared to the Bimmercode version.

Does this work on manual cars as well, seems like much of this discussion is centered around DCT? Not that it's super necessary but I have always thought current gear should show on the dash... car is a 6 speed OG M2 LCI.

Yes you can disable it on a manual too. I've done it.

US cars still have the option available from the factory. Seems to be EU cars the swing is hidden and needs to be coded.

No "current gear" available.

Yup I have it disabled right now. But would like to see current gear. Shouldn't be this hard lol

I don't have an M2 but still I wanted to share my experience with the unwanted shiftpoint indicator.

My car: F32 440i 2016 with ZF8 automatic gearbox. It shows the same behavior, when operating the gearbox in manual mode it makes stupid suggestions like I need to upshift from 5th gear to 7th gear while running 2000rpm.

In my case I was able to disable the shiftpoint indicator by only changing SPA_IST_GANG_ENABLE from activ to nicht_activ using Bimmercode in expert mode.

I am sharing my experience here as this thread seem to give the most complete information on disabling the shiftpoint indictator. I could not find any forumpost describing the same for non M cars.
