Never really noticed the similarities but it's very interesting, the E36 is still one of my all time favorites.

First it was a "spiritual successor" to the E46 M3, now E36... Soon it will probably be E30.

E36 length, though it is wider. For Europeans, it should play like a refined E36M. Americans see more of a power bump over our cars.

However, the E36 came with 4 doors...hint, hint. Grand Coupe, 2 series sedan, whatever you want to call it.

Actually, if you're willing to stretch the wheelbase about 40-50mm to enable a 4 door sedan, then we can go back to e46 comparisons. I have an idea. Leave the 2 door where it is, stretch the 4 door to e46 length, and you can recapture over a decade of nostalgic owners that are now rummaging through part-out listings and aftermarket suppliers.

Just a thought...

E36 M3 in Estoril Blue.... my personal favourite. Interesting in the sizing! 16 years will add that kind of weight.

Thanks for posting

The ///M2 is not that bad at all, since now it has an 3 litre N55 turbocharged engine, it's better than the S55 in the current ///M3 & ///M4. I just miss hearing that N/A E36 ///M3 S52 i'd much prefer the older ///M cars because they have soul. These new cars today with all this computer crap is just not great at all.

Agreed, coming from a e46 M3 of 8 years I can definitely say it most closely reminds me of my e46.

it originally was a homage to the 2002 (according to bmw), then everyone called it the new e46, and now it is the new e36.......

There is either utter contempt for us or lack of insight @ bmw
