Fume Smell after acceleration with open window

Hi guys,

following Situation.

Most of the times when I do pulls with turbo spool, I get a slightly fume smell in the cabin when getting of the pedal(about 5 to 10 secs later)

I don't smell anything with closed windows.
Window is about 5 cm open.

Car was 2nd time at the dealer and nothing is detectable.

Anyone has the same issue?

Br Mark

Only thing I can think of is a leak in the connection between joints in the hot side of your drivetrain. Do you hear any unusual rattles when you accelerate?

Thanks for your answer.
I don't have any rattle (at least what I can tell)

Yes, I have same issue -- very noticeable with sunroof open. Not sure how to describe smell.

Best way I can describe the smell would be "a little fuel"

Hopefully our low-hanging muffler is not causing a "venturing effect" and throwing exhaust fumes back to front of car 🤧

Might just been the grease left over on the car that they use when shipping it over here from Germany.

Ahaaa! It does have that type of smell. I have 1400 miles, so just started driving it a bit harder😇. Sorta remember that smell when I worked on aircraft back in my USAF days.

The weather was a bit warmer this week, so opened the sunroof and rolled down the windows.

Just curious if you ever got anywhere with working this out. I saw this thread a few weeks ago before picking mine up and now I have I’m definitely finding the same thing. Smells like grease or fishy glue...

Weather has been crappy here in Charlotte, so windows have been up. No smell with windows closed. Will provide update as weather improves.

BMW has been using some very strong smelling sunroof track lube for the past few years.

I’d almost guarantee that this is what you are smelling while the sunroof is open.

A few of us noticed a "wax like" smell during break in of our LCI's. It pretty much went away over time. Definitely not a gas smell...

in short Words: the fuel tank ventilation is locked due to programming…

any idea?

After 3 months and 2,600 miles, smell is still an issue (when sunroof is open or partially open). If it's sunroof lube, I am hoping the warmer weather helps resolve. Can't smell anything when car is not moving, with engine running (under hood and under/behind vehicle.

Was going to start a thread on this too.

There is an obvious greasy smell when cruising around with windows down. I noticed the same thing on my previous '17 M2, so it's something unique to the chassis, not just the M2C. It's kind of unpleasant and totally unnoticeable when windows are up.

I play with setting A/C to on/off, but there isn't a noticeable difference.

Edit: For reference, my '17 and '19 both were slicktops.

I also have this. Seems to come on strong when I "get on it" a bit. Oil temps seem to be normal so I'm guessing its a break-in smell?
