iPhone cradle/holder - not armrest mount

Searched the forums but didn't have much success.

What are you M2 owners using to hold you phone while driving.

I need to be able to see my phone when driving to take calls and access my phone at a light or while stopped.

Seeking a quality phone holder where I can see my screen and have easy access.

Prefer to not mount to the vent louvers, but something stronger that will hold the phone.

Driving a 6MT and the cup holder just isn't working for me.

Pics and suggestions are appreciated greatly. TYIA

I think most are using this now. Its awesome. I have a separate wireless charger mounted to it. Fit perfectly on the mount ball.

I bought this after it was recommended by a member here on the forum. I can't remember who exactly but I can't take credit for it.

https://www.syncwire.com/products/sy...-for-dashboard

I've used it for about 2 months now and it's holding up really well. The magnet is strong enough to where the phone isn't moving/sliding whenever I go over bumps.

Hope this helps.

I think that was me. If you have an Apple Magsafe compatible phone/case you can magnetically attach to the Magsafe charge plate and then the plate to the phone. Works well.

I paired the Rennline mount (LINK) with a MagSafe mount from Amazon (LINK).

I took a gamble, hoping the MagSafe holder would fit the ball of the Rennline mount. Sure enough, it's a perfect fit. The magnet is very strong, as well. I highly recommend this setup to iPhone users with a MagSafe compatible phone/case.

Well, maybe enable the 'I'm Driving' feature and leave it in the cup holder?

in the 6mt the phone moves around in the cupholder so that when i shift, my knuckles hit the phone.

thanks for the safety advice but i'm seeking a more solid mount type solution so the phone doesn't flop around when driving.

i don't use the phone when driving as it's illegal to do so and it's ridiculously unsafe.

i appreciate your insight though.

on a 1-5 scale, 1 being easy and 5 taking a lot more time and tools, what would you say the Rennline install is like in difficulty?

Well, maybe retrofit the charging cradle under the armrest and leave it there?

I'm using a Kuda base, with a Brodit/Proclip "quick detach" adapter screwed into it. this allows me to change phone mounts easily without re-driving screws through the Kuda base, which is fiberglass wrapped in leather so wouldn't do well with a lot of screwing and unscrewing.

I've been through two or three different phone mounting systems on top of this Kuda base since buying it. (iPhone Xs, then 11pro, now 13pro).
Currently, I have a T-slot tilt-swivel from Proclip slotted into the quick detach, and then I have a Turing Ergo holder that houses an official Apple Magsafe puck attached to the T-slot.

I slap my phone (magnetically) on that mount when I get in the car, and it is held and charges.

I have an LCI, for a pre-LCI you'd need this slightly different Kuda base (the first item on that page).

Rennline rates this 1 out of 5 wrenches for installation difficulty.

Their install video shows how trivial it is:

It's super easy. I think you'd finish the install before the video even finishes playing.

Yep - so leave the armrest up with the phone in the charging cradle and you will be able to see it just fine. HTH

Mine stays in my pocket. It would be nice if BMW would recognize failure and replace the "phone warmer" in the armrest with something that actually works - MagSafe would be awesome. Not holding my breath.

agreed. the armrest slow bake is janky. and a waste of good space too. if mine wasn't a manual, i'd consider the pocket.

+1 for the Rennline mount. I installed mine a few weeks ago and am pretty happy with it. Install is easy, just go slow when popping the clips for the trim panel so you don't break anything.

I'm using Rennline's magsafe mount too. The magnet isn't extremely strong, but my phone has yet to come off so it must be good enough. It will occasionally spin around a bit though. I ran a 6' black usb-c cable from the charger to the 12v socket at the back of the center console by tucking it inside of the dash and console. You can barely even tell it's there.

Looks like that MagSafe mount is now full of branding.

Anyone have any similar unbranded large MagSafe magnets that mount on the Rennline ball? (I see the Syncwire mentioned above, but prefer unbranded like the pictures DadVibes showed above).

Otherwise, I guess I'll start ordering Amazon MagSafe car mounts that look like they would fit the Rennline ball.

The ball socket size is 17mm. I don't know of any sleek mounts, but knowing that size might help you find what you're looking for.

I use the Rennline Mount and the Rennline MagSafe that connects to the ball. Works perfectly with no issues, phone doesn't move.
