I am able to adjust all 3 modes independently -- I can go with sport+ for steering and throttle without MDM automatically engaging. I have to press DSC button to engage MDM.

Hit DSC button briefly to turn on MDM or hold DSC for 10 seconds to turn dynamic stability control off.
Partially incorrect. Throttle response to sport plus enables MDM by default. If it is set as an M button, you must press twice to confirm.
I drive in mdm almost all the time. But note, traction control is VERY limited in MDM mode. The car will really get sideways before it intervenes.
Respectfully disagree that sport+ turns on MDM. There is a distinct difference with sport+ and MDM on/off. Also, the gauge cluster doesn't reflect showing MDM being on when I go into sport+, but if you push the stability button it'll turn on the squiggly car lamp (technical term) and show MDM in the cluster.
deleted my stupid post as I thought I was in the n55 m2 forum.

Are you sure this applies to the M2 Comp? The M2 Comp does not have a Driving Experience button. It has 3 distinct buttons that FalconUSAF described.

I agree with you here. The M2 Comp has 3 buttons with 3 settings each. I don't recall any button overriding the other 2 nor is there any mention of it in the manual. The M1+M2 buttons are just customizable presets.

About auto rev matching in the 6MT, the manual has this funny verbiage:
"Depending on the engine installation, the engine speed during a shifting operation is adjusted automatically as required for harmonious and dynamic gear shifting."
I don't see the manual explicitly stating how to turn it off, but BMW told me it's off when DSC is off.

This is the most powerful car I've owned or even driven, so I'm still learning and getting used to it. I recently flashed my car to the CS map and I got a little swirly even with all the nannies on, so I've still got some ways to go before I even attempt MDM, let alone DSC off. Haha

(For me, it's more about others on the road. Like, it's not fair for someone else to pay for my mistake.)

I haven't ventured into MDM-land much yet, either. Break-in period, then a brief "getting to know her" period, and then winter-wheel time. I just swapped back to my 788's this weekend. I had a clear run in nice weather on my way to work early this morning, and I was inspired by this thread a bit, so I put the car into MDM mode (sport+/sport/manual mode on the DCT for the other settings). It was really interesting. Take-off is much smoother, and the car felt more alive on the nice curves between home and work.

I'll play with it more as weather, traffic, and time permits.

Also respectfully disagree. Sport+ does not enable MDM by default. If you have it set as one of you M buttons, you still need to confirm your MDM selection. If you depress the console button while in Sport+ DSC goes off / MDM on as indicated on the instrument panel.

For me:

M1: Sport+ Engine / Sport Steering.
M2: Sport+ Engine / MDM on / Sport Steering.

To answer OP's question. I feel there is no need to turn off DSC on the street, unless one is very experienced with the car's behavior and wants to remove rev-matching.

I rarely drive with DSC off other than sampling it a few times on a dry warm day. Even then I didn't push the car's limits. MDM is seldom used and only on a dry, warm day with warm tire temps.

Last October someone of BMW high(er) management in Munich lost his life in an M2 Competition crash on a backroad on a cold morning. Went oversteer. Thread: here.

You got lots of power under the right foot - keep the brute force under control. Take care, friends.

Ok boyz and girlz, I've had DSC off for 3 days now (wow!) and love it (yikes!). This was around town, beltway, interstate and on-ramps only. Seems like a different car, in a very good way. For narrower boys roads and more "spirited" driving will definitely do MDM at minimum. Drove many high performance muscle cars in late 60's (Camaros, Chevelle's, Mustang's, Cougars) and all had polyester tires with no nannies, so danger was always lurking. I know, this car is a different beast, but oh my! -- the, handling, stability, stickiness, balance, etc, etc !! Enjoy!!!!!😎

"narrower boys roads" was rather intriguing, "narrower roads" is so pedestrian. You've let everyone in this thread down.

P.S. When you mention Cougars we're not thinking of cars. Tease.

Always have it off as it's what I am used to. Most of my cars in my life have been from the 80s so this traction control shit just confuses and scares me.

On the other hand - It startles me how fast cars are today and that anyone can just buy one and drive it with no real experience. I have a healthy respect and fear of my M2C and treat is as such.

Respectfuly, it doesnt I'm afraid. MDM etc is totally independent of throttle response settings.

Keep the DSC on or at least MDM enabled when you're driving on public streets and reserve the 'Tim YoYo' setting for the track or an open airstrip...

I could crash better than that with full traction on for sure!

Turn it all off when you want to pay attention then you get the real car , not a soft, comfy polite one that treats you like a pretend race driver.

I may be the oldest M2 driver in the country at 63 and I have to stifle a bit of a laugh since I drove for some 28 years without traction control and maybe 15 without antilock brakes. (And five without power brakes or steering!) Living in the north east no accidents or even scary moments.

10% maybe. This may increase in the summer, but it's a road car.
MDM 90% of the time. It allows plenty of fun and safety. Very impressed with it.

I bet Paul Walker's family wished that Carrera GT had stability control..

Seriously guys, seeing someone die before your eyes in motor vehicle crash, grounds you. You really begin to realize how expendable life really is. Here now, five mins later - gone forever.

On the public streets, I leave the traction control at least partially engaged, as a safety net and anally change my tires before it's anywhere close to the wear bars.

I'm far from a Boy Scout, I just want to live another day to sue my insurance company for my negligence
