M2C Delivery + Akrapovic/Ohlins/763M/PPF at ACM
Hey guys,
I took delivery of my M2C yesterday after selling my 18 M2 last month. Took it straight to ACM after delivery for Ohlins, PPF and 763Ms. I know that a lot of reviews are out there, but many people are still waiting for their cars so thought I would share some quick first impressions: - Hockenheim Silver. It's probably my favorite thing so far about the car, pictures don't do it justice. It's absolutely gorgeous. - 788s actually looks really good in person (I hated them in all the pictures). I have the "black" ones but really they're darker silver. Still swapping to 763s for more contrast though. - S55 6MT is better than N55 6MT. I think this has been mentioned once before and I know, I'm surprised as well, but the 6MT on this car is smoother than the 6MT on my 18. Mind you, the car only had 5 miles when I picked it up and I was immediately shocked after the first 1-2 shift, it's just smooth! Rev match feels better too, I don't know if its software tweaks or due to the engine. - I only drove the car for like an hour so can't really tell if the ride is better stock for stock (had Ohlins installed on my 18 after delivery as well), but steering feels a little better? Not sure yet... - Exhaust... wow. It's not even about how the engine sounds bad, but there's simply no sound at all. My car is US spec and I still can barely hear the exhaust in the cabin. Tried Sport/Sport Plus doesn't seem to make much a difference. Already talking to Matt at ACM to see which exhaust system we should get. (We both like Akra ) I'll reserve judgement on the seats, brakes and engine until I drive it more. Special thanks to Brandon (amazing sales) at Open Road and Matt/ACM! Will report back when they're done with the car |

I talked to Matt about fitting the AA midpipe, he said we can definitely do it but I think I might just go with the Akra link pipes+slip on. I got to hear a AA mid + Dinan rear setup on a M3 and that was pretty good. I had MPE on my 18, and to be honest I doubt it's gonna be much cheaper than Akra...

Today I picked the car up from ACM and drove through Hawks Nest back home. The guys at ACM are simply superb, I can't thank them enough. Matt was extremely helpful and their in house detailers (Automotive Specialty Wrap) did an amazing job on the PPF, their attention to details are incredible. Matt knew exactly what I wanted in setting up the Ohlins, and even took care of the rear reflectors install for free!
Also met up with Pat pnosker who is another forum member with a HS M2C, and he showed me what BM3 Stage 1 is like. His car pulled so freaking hard I was getting a headache lol. So some follow up on after the drive back: - 6MT is definitely smoother/better in this car, I'm surprised this isn't mentioned, perhaps other N55 to S55 6MT owners will know what I'm saying. - Brakes feel pretty good, I don't find them to bite a lot initially which is what I want - Ride is actually fantastic with Ohlins and a nice subtle drop, I feel better already - Steering is a very noticeable difference, with Efficient being very soft. Sport is perfect for me, very natural returning to the center. I feel like Sport + steering is like comfort in the OG. - Seating position is still high at the lowest setting... meh - Biggest complaint is still the exhaust, it just sounds weak, and that muffler needs to GO. Akra is planned. Overall I'm really happy with how the car is rn. I thought about wrapping roof black and other CF bits but for now I just want to enjoy it. I also thought I'd miss the OG a lot, because the OG was everything I wanted but this is truely a better package. I'll post more pics when Matt is done editing the photos that he took (he takes amazing photos). Last edited by M2GT; 04-21-2019 at 08:02 PM.. |

Congratulations! I assume your car is a 2019. Did you buy new tires with your 763s? Wondering if later M2Cs come with PS4S instead of PSS.
Thanks!

Yup. I too went from N55 6Mt to S55 6MT.
The S55 with this gearbox in the M2C is sublime. Definitely more engaging and more mechanical feeling. Still a bit of the start up assistance but it’s so subtle I stalled the car twice on the first day. I need to retrain my brain to drive a manual. (I used to start off with 0 gas ) Seating position is about half an inch higher than my old car with manual seats. But the new seats are so much better it doesn’t bother me. Overall the car just has a better fit and finish. |

Love the Ohlins, they handle the bumps really well. I remember putting the Ohlins on my last car and immediately felt a massive difference. I was expecting it to be stiff this time too but not so much, maybe I'm used to it

My M3 is not nearly as good - very notchy and it hates cold (where it does not like going into first). I had the fluid changed and it is a bit better, but not nearly as good as the M2 (and it is the only thing on the car that drives me nuts). However... I picked up my M2 with 0 miles on it (well 5 or whatever) and I picked up my M3 with 80 on it (test drives and what not). So I'm wondering if it was messed up in some test drives.... PS - the rims on your car are such an improvement over the 788s

Great feedback! Interesting emphasis on the transmission. I really liked the 6MT on my f80 non zcp; my other buddy with an OG M2 complained how it's 6MT was too rubbery and didn't feel as solid as the F80s. So this corroborates his feedback.
Couple questions - How long are you with the Ohlins? and what tire size did you go with? I presume no rubbing or issues? And more pics please, thanks!!

Thanks! I had the Ohlins for half a year now, they've been great so far. I've tried different settings in the 10-20 clicks range and it's amazing how different it is. I remember 13 was pretty stiff and after I changed it to 15 it was really comfortable lol. I went with 255/35 and 275/35, no issues so far.

Thanks! It had 8 miles on the OG, and I made sure no one drove both cars because I was at the dealers waiting for them to arrive lol. You are correct in M2,M2C,M3 have the same trans, but the S55 6MT definitely feels different from the N55 6MT. I can't really explain it but like others said it feels more mechanical and I remember I could shift perfectly in the OG but it would still feel a little unsettled. I guess the best way to describe it is that the S55 6MT feels more accurate, and doesn't react as much to a lousy shift if you know what I mean

Congrats! She is a beauty. We have the same build w/763Ms. HS is absolutely stunning. I echo all of your opinions, shifting, ride, steering, etc. with exception to the sound. Sport+ sounds great to me, even better than my 2018 M2. I felt the same way when I first took delivery. Within 50 miles my opinion changed. Of course there is no substitute for an Akra exhaust. Ride height looks perfect. You guys with the Ohlins are killing me. That's my next mod...

Interesting take on the 6MT. I can't tell any difference between the 6MT in my 16 M3, 17 M2 and 19M2C, all 3 feel exactly the same.
I have a set of 763M's coming for my HS silver M2C also, now I need some coilovers and an exhaust. |
