I got the car back yesterday afternoon. They tested the coil and plug on cylinder 6 and it tested good. They put it back together, cleared the codes and the code didn't come back. My SA wasn't happy that they didn't actually find a problem. I have her direct number in case it happens again, and the issue is logged. We'll see how it goes over time from here. I was very happy with the service from my SA, and I had fun with the 530i test drive.

The cold shouldn't have been a problem, it's only been cold for Portland, not real cold, and the car is garaged.

if a misfire triggers a CEL it means many misfires happened, when cold the ring gap can lead to the misfires, but i would not want it triggering a CEL. if this continues to trip CEL's, bring it to another dealer

The service department at my dealership is great. If the problem reoccurs, I have every reason to believe that they will take care of me.

Op I had the same exact thing happen to my og m2. At About 800 miles a check engine light appears and I took it to the dealership.
They checked every possible thing that could be related to the misfire code. They checked coils, spark plugs, compression test, etc..
at the end of their search which was about 2 days they found everything was running the way it should so they just cleared the code and it never returned. I drove for 2 years no problems.

N55 here, but I had the same thing happen around the same point. Took it in to the dealer and they figured it was bad gas. The engine never showed any signs of misfire. It's been 2k since then and the issue hasn't come back.

You're not kidding. My G/F just got a new X5 and the ride puts my Lexus GX470 to absolute shame, its amazing. And its not like it body rolls all over the place either. For how close her X5 and my M2C are in price I started to question my order of a new M2C... but only for a moment. I'm also sure once I drive it I'll be glad I stayed the course. Then there was that time she kneed me in the nuts outside that comedy club because she thought I was hitting on the waitress. And, of course, she did burn all my childhood comic books, and my X-Men #1, that time I didn't read the Oprah Book Club selection with her... But, I can't break up with her. She's got an X5!"

I barely took delivery of my 2020 M2 Comp in late April 2020. Yesterday, during my usual Sunday drive, check engine light appeared. I re-start my engine twice, check engine light remained. Just dropped the vehicle off at the dealer, was told that they will keep the car for a few days.

On the bright side, you're getting 99.9mpg.

If the car runs fine, I wouldn't worry about it.

These cars have waaaay too many sensors nowadays. They overreact to anything. My friend just bought a brand new X3 and he got a check engine a week later. Turns out it was one of the oxygen sensors complaining. They reset the code and it hasn't come back.

Exactly 6 months of ownership and 6000 KM later I got a drivetrain malfunction and the car immediately went into limp mode in the middle of the road. Not fun.

Checked up the code and it's a DME error 1F0525, something to do with fuel pump. Restarted the car and it's been working fine for the last month.
Yet to go to the dealer, but considering going soon.

These cars were never designed to have good gas mileage. If it's somewhere above 30 mpg, the motor shuts down for a self diagnosis to make sure it's an S55 and not a diesel. True story.

LOL. Nah, re-started a few times, engine malfunction light still on.

Thus, just got the vehicle back from the dealer. Dealer service tech put approximately 30+ miles on my baby, diagnosed as spark plug misfired. One spark plug replaced. Fingers crossed.

Seriously, if one more light pops on, I'm going to trade this in and get back into a 911. P car is hell more easier to maintain than this baby {unfortunately.....:-( }

Hope everyone is staying healthy and safe during COVID.

Joking aside, if it's just a spark plug don't stress over it. These cars can be finicky, but that doesn't mean they are unreliable. I've been driving BMWs for over 20yrs. Nearly all of them had annoying small (on rare occasion big) issues that required a dealer visit. Yes it's a hassle, but they do put you in a nice loaner and take care of you. Once the issues are resolved the cars tend to be fairly reliable. Even when I've had a car out of warranty and somethings failed on it I've been lucky enough to get fully compensated via the BMW Owner Reimbursement Program. Just take note, to get reimbursed you have to have it repaired at a dealer. So if your car is out of warranty check that before deciding where to get it fixed.

So enjoy the car now that it's fixed, before it breaks again! jk

Man one check engine light on a spark plug and you're already on the cliff. Step back and breath lol.

Hey now, if this is a brand new vehicle, i would keep it, you know it's history, it has a full warranty and it just needed some adjustments out of the box. If this was a used vehicle and you had no idea what's been happening since the vehicle was new, then yes, by all means, send it back to the dealer and get your money back.
My experience, i bought a one year old M3, the motor started to leak coolant on the WAY HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP, car overheated. I sent it back to the dealer via tow truck. They fixed it, saying it was a loose clamp on a hose. It felt fishy. I went back asking for a free extended warranty, they said no, i said fine, so i returned it on day 5. The original owner saw my post here and sent me a PM explaining that the motor blew once.
Anyway, long story short, you're fine, keep the car. It's not worth the depreciation because of a simple fix from the dealer. Should be bullet proof.

Well said. All my BMWs had minor issues. I even took in my N20 engine is right at the end of its BMW extended 7 year warranty and they replaced the timing chain and guides that were known to fail. Otherwise, my BMWs have been solid cars. Dont let a spark throw you off...

Have to say that I,ve had quite a few M cars and none have given me any like the check engine light I got on my M2C with 1500+ miles. Found it rather disappointing particularly because I replaced my 1M because I got tired of constant check engine lights and or codes (a bit later in its life though).

Dealer said they couldn’t find the problem. Finally decided it was some kind of electrical short (an uncomfortably vague diagnosis). At least it’s documented. Fingers crossed.

Oh wow, thanks for sharing. Ya, you are right.

Hopefully no more Christmas light on the dash of my M2 any time soon.

Thanks again.
