It really comes down to the way you have your seat set in this car. It was mentioned before, and I agree, that it seems the 'right' driving position has you sitting a bit higher than you would initially expect. The angle to the instruments and out the front are just right. For me, 5'10" I just barely have enough room for my helmet, I can fit my hand between the helmet and the roof. (I have a non-sunroof). However, there is plenty of room to lower the seat a bit if you needed the extra inch or so. But this also means now driving the car in a different position than you're used to on the track, and that shouldn't be the case. Best thing to do is find a dealer with an M2 in the showroom, bring your helmet and see for yourself, or make a fist and see if that clears.

You're welcome to sit in my car and try it out. I bet you that you'll love the position and the sunroof

And main bearings. And wheelarch rust, eventually. And cooling issues from time to time. Can someone else list all the faults of the E46, common and rare? Just so we all have a nice pile of bricks to throw at new BMWs

what about comparing to the E86 M coupe?

The E86 M Coupe should be the true comparison, not the E46 //M3. Offering mine if anyone's up for a drive with the Norcal Z's to compare it alongside one of these newfangled turbo-trocity //M cars BMW is pushing out there to have unaffordable maintenance costs after the warranty wears out, and lessees beating up on them not caring what the CPO buyer suffers after their lease is over.Preferable to an E46 //M3? For sure, its a no-brainer. But against the final version Siemens controlled S54 in an SCCA Street/stock class legal E86 M Coupe, with BMW's little air filter box restrictor baffles removed? That's a 'Coupe of a different color'. Let the tire smoke begin.

The 1M was the new E46 M3.
The M2 was the new E46 M3.
Now it's the M2C...

Stop it!

Ya...Just a sad, played out cliche. Car culture seems to love lazy, played out cliches.

Good review. Looks like the owner was a bit sketched out from the driver going nuts in his M2C haha.
It's Angeles Crest Hwy. Near Pasadena/La Canada area in California.

Haha it was hard to talk and brace at the same time

After driving an M2, M2 CS and my car. Nope. Very good car but not the same. They both sound terrible so that is same same.

We need to recognize that these cars are apples and oranges — cars from different eras with their own unique regulations that shape their design — like the very unique love-it-or-hate-it raspiness of the S54.

Anyone could say: The e46 M3 is large, lifeless and overweight, and my e30 M3 is the best!

Yes, maybe true in some cars, but not this one. Last track day, my passenger was 6'2 and very comfortable with his head room. I am 6' and continue to have no problem at all.

Now for you hard core HPDE guys running cold air into your helmet, by all means don't get the sunroof!
Thank you!! I have no helmet clearance issues with my F80 with sunroof and started to second guess everything (up is down? down is up?) on the planned sunroof with my M2C coming this summer...

To me you actually actually looked very relaxed. Good clip. Thanks for lending the donor car.

Saw an M2C being prepped and on display at the Oxnard VDC in August when we were part of a tour group visiting the facility - could it possibly have been yours HS? Nice to view it in action!
