Door plate trim
Hi guys, I noticed that the black trim around the M door plates is faded looking. I can only assume that some type of cleaner or chemical caused it as those are in areas that never see sun. Do you guys know of a cleaner or something to use on these to revitalize the black trim?

I've used this on the exterior black plastic of my 2007 Saab after trying many other options. The plastic would get decimated by the sun. I'd do a touch-up every 3-4 years, though it didn't really need it. I was just being anal and wanted the blackest of black trim. One of the reasons I like the M2 is the lack of exterior black plastic, one less thing I have to watch to keep my car looking new.
I would cut the top off the bottle, pour it into another container, and use a foam brush to apply it. Clean the plastic surfaces real good with soap and water and then iso alcohol before applying. Also tape off the surrounding areas, because if it gets on paint, it will dry and stain the paint. Have a towel close by to quickly clean up any drips so it doesn't dry on unwanted areas. |

I have found that if you use a microfiber towel and apply firm pressure while rubbing the affected areas, then the discoloration will come off in the towel and the trim will return to a like-new appearance. This was the case with my 2017 M2 and my wife's 2016 340i. Good luck.

I started by using a microfiber towel and that helped some. I switched to a slightly damp magic eraser and that did the trick on the trim. Looks great now!

I just noticed mine have a similar look. Looks like it is a common problem: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1488187
I will try microfiber and magic eraser -- I always dry the door jamb and sill after washing, never use any chemicals on the sills. |
