I have an LBB M2C and someone in the neighborhood with an LBB OG - yet to catch him while I’m depriving my car though.

There's another local LBB M2C locally. I don't live in a huge city, so mine, and the other 2 LBB are the only ones I've ever seen around.

On a Sunday like yesterday, everything was going very very well indeed
Up at 5:30am, back home by 2:30pm, with 360 miles in between.

Run of the mill driving, yes sure it's not that great of a sound - mountain roads chasing 7.5k, windows down, the occasional tunnel; it's fantastic. A simply superb pocket rocket:

I really wish I lived around some decent roads...really tough here in this part of Texas. Flat, straight roads for miles is the norm

I'm at 6k miles and everything is peachy - except - I have a brake issue. From fairly early on, the brakes pulsate when applied, especially noticeable when they're well warmed at high speed, and also at very low speeds such as while coming to a slow stop. Will have it addressed at the 10k service. Otherwise - nothing but miles of smiles.

I feel your pain. I lived in Austin for 2yrs (2017-18) and simply an Easterly direction meant mind-numbingly boring. Westerly directions you could find some excellent roads, but ya out towards you was so crap. I can see the appeal of MOAR POWER cause what else can you do out there.

My route did have 2hrs of boring highway driving and another 1hr of good/but way too busy roads, but yes the parts in the middle were awesome. If you find your way to BC, here you go... note those elevation changes

I am noticing the same issue with mine at 5500 miles. I didn't notice it until the last 1000 miles or so. I will monitor it until my next service; it's not that bad at moment, but I know it probably won't be an easy conversation with a dealer since brakes are wear items (aka they are going to try and charge me for a brake service)...

Just completed my return from Vancouver to San Francisco via I5 and I needed 3 petrol stops. So not that bad really and proves I can use it for long boring drives.

That said, just give me a Camry or Accord car rental and I'd be happier. Long distance motorway driving is a sad way to pile on miles on these gems of an automobile.

I’m heading to Kelowna in a couple of weeks for a weeklong vacation. Would love to have my M2 there, but instead I rented a freakin Sonata

I have the same issue at around 6k miles. It only happens when braking at high speed. Had my annual oil change last month and SA advised they wouldn't replace brakes yet but to report back if it keeps shuddering.

It may help y'all to re-bed in the brake pads to clear the rotors of pad disposition. Find a route where you can do 4-5 60-5 stops in a row and then no braking for 10 minutes after that.

Do 1-2 medium pressure stops, but never to zero, let off smoothly and accelerate quickly back to speed. Then do 3-4 hard stops, threshold braking just less than full ABS lock up. Again not completely stopping but let off at 5-10 mph accelerating back up to speed. Then drive 10 minutes little to no braking to allow them to cool. Back home, park on a level spot, no parking brake to avoid its pads sticking to the rears. This process has always helped mine and reduced them from squeaking too.

It actually helps to do this the morning after washing your car where you should have a fine coat of rust on the rotors to help smooth them out.

PS: With track pads, I've done 8 stops from 80 mph and barely phased them. But it did heat up and clean the rotors!

Then prepare to spend the day cleaning the wheels after that

Not a bad idea, I might give that a try. I think the problem is that I honestly don't use the brakes a whole lot; mostly just downshift to slow down and pace myself in town, so that might be contributing to deposits and other factors causing vibration.

See that's the problem of being a sensible adult
Of course now I am back in the city, I feel I'll be the same and just be puttering around town and not driving it with the intent it deserves.

I kinda tried to bed them in again, but I'll give it another go per the specific instructions above, and report back on how it goes.

I've found that bedding them also significantly reduces the characteristic brake squeal for a little bit. It could also be a placebo effect but the brakes also *feel* better after some heat. The bite is more progressive and easier to modulate vs the on/off feel of cold pads. I rarely get the opportunity to bed the pads but I'll have to make it a point to heat them up the next time I get to drive the car.

Has anyone else had the - "Get some rest Pam. Look you tired" - notice come up?

I just did my first long distance motorway trip this week and had it come up twice. I wasn't swaying back and forth over the centre line or anything, so wondered if the computer does a distance/time/average mph calculation.
Then presents the 'take a break' alert with an option to see nearby coffee shops on the satnav.

LOL... yes, several times on my marathon 3 day break-in drive.

I seem to get it around the 2 hour mark. I don't think its a set time or distance so I don't know what it uses. Many G series all have interior cameras to see if you're focusing on the road but the M2C is too old of a platform for that.

Drives: 2010 Honda Fit, 2021 M2 Comp
Join Date: Mar 2021
Location: CA

iTrader: (0)

I’ve had my car for about 6 months, about 3700 miles (didn’t drive it for about 2 months) and it’s my weekend car. I daily my 2010 Honda Fit. I briefly had a 2020 WRX but sold that because I wanted more from a car and also rattles.

I’m responding because when I was doing research I enjoyed reading about people had to say about their cars.

Cars I considered before I pulled the trigger on the M2:
  • CTR (very fun car to drive, had a chance to buy at MSRP but just couldn’t get over the looks).
  • Supra (no manual).
  • Lexus RCF (no manual, a bit too big)
  • Cayman (bit pricey)

I was casually looking for a M2 when my local dealer called and said they had a M2 comp “special edition” in stock. After some back and forth (was able to get 1.5k off sticker + 1000 new grad discount), I decided to pull the trigger. It’s a 2021 M2 comp HS 6-spd.

Some random thoughts thus far:
  • It’s pretty fast (compared to my Fit lol) and such a blast to drive. I’ve pushed it a bit but not to the max, haven’t found a safe place to do so. If I had this car when I was 18 I probably would’ve died.
  • The 6-speed does feel a bit “rubberish” as others have described. I prefer the mechanical feel of my Fit, but the M is still very fun to row the gears with.
  • I don’t think I will ever track the car (don’t have the time to learn, and don’t want to spend extra money on rims, tires, brakes, etc) but I do want to take a few high performance driving classes in the future.
  • I really liked the E46 M3 when it came out and this car reminds me of that. I like the look of it, and feel like it will age really well. It’s also the perfect size for me.
  • Some say the ride is harsh but tbh I have no baseline to compare it to as I am coming from a Honda Fit.
  • I think the sound system is fine, but I am not an audiophile and I am coming from a Fit. See a recurring theme here? Lol
  • Why CarPlay isn’t full screen I don’t get (will code this soon).
  • Why doesn’t music turn off when I turn off the engine is annoying.
  • As others have mentioned, the gas tank is too small. Added with the fact she is a thirsty one…
  • the MUFFLER. ARGH
  • I have read about reliability issues with BMWs after the warranty ends, but I guess we will see. I will be on top of maintenance.
  • Why doesn’t a 60k+ car not have blind spot monitoring? My car came with an alcantara steering wheel so the other safety features were not included but man…really wished it has BSM.
  • I changed out the alcantara steering wheel because I didn’t want to deal with the maintenance of it.
  • M tax. Jesus christ M accessories are expensive.
  • Even though my car came with the 763 rims, brake dust is still very annoying.
  • occasional brake squeak is annoying too.

Things to code:
  • Full screen car play
  • Carplay/music off on engine off
  • Seat belt warning
  • Initial warning screen
  • Auto mirror fold on engine off
  • What else should I code?

Things to buy:
  • M performance front lip
  • M winglets
  • M rear diffuser
  • M CF mirrors
  • CS spoiler

I've noticed that a lot more people stop and chat about the car with me when I'm out and about then with any of my previous cars.
