I confirmed the rims are F 18x8.5 35mm and R 18x9.5 45mm. I'm also inquiring about 20mm spacers. My other concern is his Nokian Snow's are 225 / 40 R18 92R XL. So I'm not sure if I can make all this work. If not I'm now looking at a brand new setup and should probably go 19" staggered. If I end up not utilizing the 18" I'll probably use them on my daughter's 230.

I really don't want to be spending all this money right now. I have a new G05 coming and that bloody thing is going to need a winter setup because my setup for the F15 is the wrong bolt pattern!

I should have bought a tire and rim shop.

I don't have kids, so maybe you have some plan that I'm not aware of. But it seems to me buying them cars is not a great way to accomplish that.

I have 6 kids and I have helped everyone of them. They either get an older model for free or I put a nice down payment on a new car of their choice. Oldest is 31 and youngest 14 (he is the only one not in a car yet). I started with nothing but a styrofoam cooler and a 9" b&w TV when I was 18 and moved out. No need for my kids to struggle like I did.

Similar story for me. My family didn't have money when I was growing up. Never went hungry but certainly didn't have anything considered luxury.

Want to give my kids a better life. First one starts driving next year, and will likely do the same you've done.

If you're going to re-do the winter setup from scratch, you want to go narrow as possible for best snow performance.

I went down to 18x8 on all 4 corners, using 225/45R18 (XL) tires.

It has a harder time putting down power when it's dry / not snowy (since I've shaved an aggregate of 4 inches of width off the rear), but I was able to plow through all sorts of snow last winter without a problem. Since I have no other car to drive, it's a tradeoff I can live with if it helps keep me from getting stuck.

Definitely something to consider.

Should know today between the folks at VMR and my tire guys as to what's going to happen.

I'm down south of Lake Erie so we get the lovely "lake effect" snow... so at times, it's not unheard of to have roads with 6-8-12 inches on them, until the local crews can catch up.

I would've done Nokian Hakka R2 except they are harder to come by here, so I'm living with Michelin Xice3 (which Consumer Reports ranked only a hair below the Hakka R2 in objective tests).

I also have identical sized wheels and tires all around so I can rotate. The Xice3 are directional, so I can't actually swap across the car, but I can move rears to front to help even out the wear.

I did the 225/45 because I figured more sidewall would help with the ride. The M2 is a pretty stiff car already, and potholes open up in the winter. The back seat is especially harsh due to the rigid rear subframe mounting - any time I have someone sit in the back who has also ridden up front, they always comment that it's more harsh back there.

Unfortunately, none of the 18" wheels are confirmed to clear the F8x brakes. Recommended would be a 19x9.5 ET33 with a 255/35/19 tire.

a couple of questions:

1) I have removed the Dinan CAI from the M235. I trust I can pop that in the new M2?

2) I have his 710 VMR's 18" that I convert into his winter setup with his Nokian snows. Will the staggered 710's work with his M2?

Have to figure out how to upload some pics. It's the first M car in the family. Exciting.
The Dinan intake will fit , with modifications . The left Strut brace needs to be cut/trimmed . The kit came with a vinyl rubber kit which was unneeded for the 235i and probably thrown out . The directions for the cut are on the Dinan site .

I have PA4s on mine, in Chicago, and so far it’s been great. I’ve driven it in mid-30s wet, cold down to ~15F, upper 20s post-snow/slushy, and it’s been fantastic in all of those. The only condition where it was a little iffy was when I had to make a late night grocery run with 1-2 inches of fresh, unplowed snow on the ground. The PA4s weren’t getting much bite in first gear, but with an early switch to second gear it was manageable. Certainly was able to get to the store and back safely, albeit slowly.

Thank you so much. I was on the phone with Tracy who walked me through everything as well as showed me a few different setups on some M2's.

Cut / trim the strut! Oh man. I was hoping for an easy install as I did on the M235. Damn it!

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to dig into this further. I don't think I'll be cutting or trimming. With that said it doesn't seem the Dinan CAI is meant for the M2.

What setup do you have for rims and sizes?

Need some thoughts on the rim size for the winter setup. I can get the Michelin Pilot Alpine 245/35/19.

I'm looking at set with the ability to do the following for 19"

Set 1 Braelin BR06 Satin Black
1) 19x8.5 with offset options of +25, +35, +45
2) 19x9.5 with offset +35

Set 2 Dai Wheels Autobahn DW48 Gloss Black
1) 19x8.5 with offset +35

They are both Canadian manufactures and I can get them fast. I've had 4 sets of Dai Wheels (X5, 230 and 2 pairs for the Jeep).

I would really appreciate your opinion as I want to get this ordered tomorrow.

Go for the 19x8.5 ET25 - they will have similar fitment to the OEM wheels (will be 2mm more sunken in to the wheel well in the front and 4mm in the rear which is pretty negligible). You can always get some small spacers if you don't like the "stance".

A 9.5" wide wheel is a bit wide for a 245 tire - you'll likely have some sidewall stretch which leaves the rim more exposed to chips, dings, pothole rash etc. I have 255 rear winters mounted on my stock rims and they're stretched pretty good. Not a fan of the look or lack of protection, but they'll be my winter wheels going forward.

All that said, you can always try the VMR wheels from the 235i. VMR said they "haven't confirmed" if they fit. I take that to mean that they also haven't confirmed that they don't fit. Maybe something to try before dropping a bunch of money on a new set of wheels, potentially needlessly.

Thanks for the advise. Maybe I should move the tire up to 255? I'm not sure if they can get them. We are really late in the game. This is why I told the dealer not to deliver our G05 until April because I can get exactly what I want for winters.

My Tire Guy said no only because he didn't have the car to verify it and felt it was too aggressive. Trust me I'm so done spending money especially before Christmas. I really wanted this to work. They are so busy that I just can't drop by after Saturday. They did me a big favour today because I was so desperate. I had to get the tires off the VMR's and onto the M235's OEM rims so I can turn in the M235 on Saturday. He also called me to say next week is a no go. Its now between Christmas and New Years for an install. I hope it doesn't snow.
255 isn't too aggressive. The smaller tread patch works marginally better. But unless you're slogging through a bunch of snow on a daily basis you won't notice.

I'm running 265s square and haven't had any issues yet.

Lots of time to try on the VMR wheels to see if they'll fit then! Jack up one side and throw on a wheel on the front and back and see if they clear the brake calipers. If the diameter clears but they hit the inside of the spokes you can order spacers (which you'll probably want ~10mm anyways for a stock-like stance, or 15-20mm for a more flush stance).

Then you have the benefit of extra cushion of the taller sidewall, cheaper tires, and not having to buy new rims.

255 isn't too aggressive at all. Not as narrow as most people go for in the winter but it'll be a pretty marginal difference.

I have to go back tomorrow to load up the Jeep with the VMR's and Nokians. I'll see what kind of mood they're in.

Sorry, just saw this!

I got 4x437M "front" wheel version (don't remember the exact size) and put 245/35R-19s on them.
