Update: no CEL but the car behaves strange. Traction control kept interfering while going 60mph in 6th gear while the road wasn't too wet.

Edit: false alarm, the wheel spin is from my winter tire set, nothing to do with the exhaust. Sure, I expected a bit less traction going from 265 to 245 but holy crap, I'm lighting the rears up in 6th gear!

Hi Guys, I bought a used MPE exhaust with harness and remote, I just have a question on the red cable that connects to the fuse box, does it come with a connector (to connect to the fuse box) or is it just a plain cable without any connector on it? I got it without the connector and Im wondering how do I need to connect it to the fuse box, thanks hope you can help me with this, by the way I was not able to find a DIY on connecting the harness. Thanks

Update: The connector in the red cable that connects to the fuse box was missing in my harness as it was used, however I use an add a circuit to tap the mini fuse and its now working

We are getting closer to alternative solutions to avoid the flakey BT all together in this thread - https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1559727

That said, while the car is under warranty you should be able to get the dealer to fix it. I'm just tired of fumbling with the remote everytime I start the car.

I'm having to double click the button several times before it will react. Could it be just weak battery?
I have an M2 PE and on occasion, I have the same issue. I'll double click but nothing happens. Usually, this is if I try turning it on later, not right away upon startup. But there's no real consistent behavior I've been able to document.

The good news is it only happens occasionally. And usually after a few tries it does tend to work. But I don't think it has anything to do with the battery because it's been an issue for over a year.

That said, I love the exhaust and have never had issues with it turning off randomly on it's own. Traction mode is where it's at for cruising around city streets.

Itís funny, mine does the exact opposite. If I try to open the valves too close after start up sometimes thereís a lag/delay. But if I open them after driving or letting the car run it connects immediately.

I put my remote in the door panel to free up my second cup holder and I notice it seems to have a weak connection from that spot. I have to physically lift it up into the cabin most times also. Great sounding exhaust albeit a bit finicky sometimes.

Taking mine in tomorrow. I was able to capture the behavior on video. We had the exact same issue on our JCW. Eventually they replaced the Bluetooth hardware by the exhaust on the JCW, after that, it always stays open. So will see what they say for the M2.

Took it into the dealer, with my video in hand of it closing on its own. We fired up the car, opened the valve, it shut off after a minute or 2 with the BMW service guys stood there. I gotta take the car in on Wednesday so they can look at it further. They're gonna open a case with BMW.

Interestingly, shortly after leaving the dealership, they called asking if I had wireless charging in the car, so I suspect their initial thought is that its interference, though I told them, my wife's JCW also has wireless charging and a new BT module was able to resolve the issue in the JCW.

Your neighbors will love you even more

But expect a very loud cold start.

Cold starts are very loud. You can't close the flaps for long highway drives and the MPE has a tendency to drone between 2800 and 3000 RPMs (more noticeable with the flaps open).
Other than that no disadvantages, I've been looking at some solutions for having the valves operational but defaulting to open. But now that I've been running the car with flaps open for a month I think I'm just gonna leave it that way.

Great to hear it! It's definitely that module that is the culprit. When I went through this ordeal, they weren't able to source the module individually so I ended up with an entirely new exhaust system. At the end of the day, not having that erratic behaviour with the valves makes the drive so much more enjoyable!

yes this will work.

$100 for something you can do with about $20 worth of parts and time included....

Can you verify this works?

The one thing that's left to be verified is whether the two valve models are compatible.
The stock M2 uses a single valve that's the same as most non M BMWs so that's what the wiring and DME is set for.
The MPE uses two valves that are the same as stock M3/M4 valves. They look identical but have a different part number.

All that needs to be done is someone plugging the MPE/M3/M4 type into the stock M2 harness and switching the driving mode. It should be fairly safe to do.
If this test works then the Y splitter harness should work.

Hi !
I'm very interested in this simple solution since my MPE also randomly shuts the valves by itself...
Did someone actually test it yet ?

I am having the same issue, turns off by itself. Replaced the BT battery no change. Took it my dealer said it was working fine as per factory specs. Tried to blame it in my radar detector and laser jammer, but both were turned off when he looked at it. I can just sit in the garage and it will turn off in comfort mode, maybe a bit better in sport. Will try the 15amp fuse thanks for the suggestion and other info. If still no luck, time to try another dealer.

Ok, so I finally did some testing. Sadly the valves don't seem to be interchangeable.I plugged in a non-M valve into the BT controller harness and it didn't work

So at the moment the one option I know would work is to source two non-M valves and the Y cable.

So the valves themselves don't work or the Y cable doesnt? Remus seems to have a solution that the valves are controlled by the drive mode button so are they just using this Y cable?

There are two different valves used by BMW. They don't appear to be compatible. To make it work with the the drive mode button you would need the Y cable and two non-M valves (solenoids actually)
