I'll try Aventurine Green, but no PTS possible yet, not clear if possible at all.

So color is the question for me now.

It has been specked as a MT, transition to PDK expected 2nd Q 2020, it will be one of the first PDK versions available in the Netherlands.

I`m keeping my OG M2
Woohoo 18 way adj seats !

On the other hand, my eyes and heart light up when my GTS is pulling through a turn or long curve. That is where the car earns what I paid for it.

This gets me to the GT4. NA flat 6 is going to absolutely howl. The sound alone significantly elevates one’s driving experience. Is it better or worse than the 718 GTS in terms of actual performance? Not sure, but I know what that NA flat 6 does when it comes to perceived performance.

M2CS versus GT4? Realistically, appears we are looking at a $40K price difference, minimum. That cannot be ignored for nearly anyone. I can float $80K for M2CS, but a big ‘no-go’ for a $120K GT4.

Price aside . . . forget it, you cannot ignore the price. I am going with the M2CS all day and night. The truth is, however, if I am going with M2 model, then it is going to be the M2C. Now we are talking an approximate $60K price difference (half the GT4).

I said it before, and I will say it again, you are going to be hard pressed to find more performance for the money than you get the M2C. Do not need to drive the M2CS, just give me the M2C. . . BMW can keep all the carbon fiber parts.

I got to test drive the 718 GTS this weekend - my local P car dealer has a sweet 2018 CPO that I went to check out. Having had a 981 CS (and with a F80 and OG M2 in the garage currently), I was really interested to see how the 718 GTS stacked up.

Wow - I was really impressed. The car felt so small and nimble compared to the F80 (obviously ) but it also sounded pretty good to my ears. Does it have the high pitched wail of the F6 in the 981? No, but I think it sounds good in its own right, and was definitely quicker than my old Cayman. I would say that it didn't have the extreme grunt of the S55, but felt quicker than the OG M2 we have.

The PDK is still the best transmission I have ever driven - the thing is just so fast, up or down. And to your point, the car just LOVES going around corners. I used to get such a kick out of driving the 981, even at lower speeds, and the 718 felt even sharper. I am really, really tempted to get one....

wow surprising, I have to confess that I haven't even contemplated a test drive of the 718 based on some really brutal reviews (about the 718 lacking soul) by reviewers who I respect

your experience makes me wonder if I should at least give one a go...currently close to placing an M2C order....

I have been pretty upfront in stating I bailed on my 20’ M2C chassis build for a new 718 CGTS . . . I am a Porsche guy.

I think I have also been rather unbiased in assessing what the M2C offers for the price. . . I think it offers more performance for $60K than any other sport car on the road! The 718 CGTS is better, but a new one is going to cost $30-40K more than a new M2C. Price cannot be ignored in comparison. . . but the CPO 718 CGTS finds itself in the ‘sweet spot’ for a lot of prospective buyers, including yourself.

You are correct, the 981 NA F6 has almost unparalleled OEM engine/exhaust acoustics. For many, including myself, the impact of acoustics toward driving experience cannot be overstated. As you also stated, the 718 falls victim in comparison to its 981 NA F6 predecessor. . . BUT 718 acoustics are not nearly as bad as is commonly cited in comparison to the 981. The really important difference occurs at lower throttle intensity, where the 718 is quite ‘tame.’ However, with some throttle intensity, the 718 really comes alive.

A 2018 CPO 718 CGTS is a great option when considering a new M2C as the alternative. Of course, only you can make the decision as to what is best for you.

Given this a M2CS versus 718 GT4 thread, I already stated I am taking the M2C . . . over the M2CS and GT4. Based on your comments, seems you have taken it a step further by considering a new M2C versus CPO 718 CGTS. . . some choices are nice to have. I know what I would do and would be interested to hear where you land in your decision process.

The M2C has got some serious soul, that is for sure. I cannot envision anyone being disappointed with an M2C sitting in their garage. . . or, more properly, out on the road.

Regarding the 718 Cayman’s soul, if I lived 16 hours closer to you, I think you would quickly recognize just how much soul a GTS possesses. The acoustic difference between 718 and 981 is noted and acknowledged. . .

Very impressed with the accolades you have given to the M2C amongst M2CS and GT4. That may be the direction i will take if I can't get an allocation

I would give it a whirl, especially if you've never driven a Cayman or Boxster before. The experience is pretty different, and it remains "the" standard in my opinion.

I can understand why some of the reviews were rough on the 718 - you ARE paying 90+K for a 4 cylinder...and after having the F6 in my 981, I can understand why people would be turned off by the 718's approach. But it's a really, really good car and I had a ton of fun on my test drive.

This thing has a lot of soul . . .

Keeping things relevant, I am still going with M2C over M2CS or 718 GT4.

DM

Pics taken on delivery day a month, or so ago, and the vehicle will never look like that again - at least not in my hands. Dirt and road war wounds accrue daily, and will continue to do so. I accept the process and it does not cause me any worry. What will not change is why I purchased and enjoy the vehicle so much - driving experience. My point is that the day I drove that car off the lot it was used. Find one with the assurances of a CPO and you would not know the difference.

Hmmmm, CPO GTS versus new M2C???? That should be an 'M2C vs' thread. I continue to find it relevant to the current thread because, all things considered, the M2C is a superior purchase over the M2CS and 718 GT4.

I'll be honest coming from 2 981 Cayman S's that vid gives me serious doubts about whether the 718 would work for me...the sound and instant throttle response of the 981 was something I valued hugely and haven't found in modern cars but no harm in trying it out

I've had 2 981 Caymans and honestly the reviews by Chris Harris and carfection on the 718 pretty much killed any interest I had in the car, and I tend to try out a lot of cars , but I may just give a cpo 718S a go based on your experience as another former 981 driver.

IMHO the lighter colors will do the car more justice! It shows the lines much better

PCCB are great IMHO, I used to have them on my previous 981 C GTS, just superb in every way, the looks, the lack of break dust, the initial break-bite, less weight. It all comes together.

As I do not track the car, PCCB are a great choice (for track use steels are better/cheaper if damaged)

Awesome

I'll try to explain;

- Steering, very nice input, not as quick on initial steering input as my current OG M2, but much better than my previous 98! C GTS (lousy steering/feel/input)

- The car does not feel as light on the nose as my former GTS, it gives a direct trust in driving, the GTS felt light on he nose, I alway thought it would understeer, 718 far more better on this.

- The steel brakes do need temperature for adequate breaking, it also takes quite some leg pressure/force, initial brake bite is far from aggressive, not my kind of break feel.

- 18 way electrical folding seats; great seat, more comfy than the LWB

- Engine; the car revs freely, but not as free as the 981 GTS, that engine was so rev happy, just unbelievable (for me the best engine ever on that respect) it must be the OPF that makes it little les rev happy

- Engine sound; a tone deeper than the 981 GT4, I liked it, not as
aggressive

- MT; this must be the best MT I've ever driven, short throw both forward/backward as sideways, just a delight, the clutch is lighter than the 981 GT4, very very good indeed

I liked the car that much, I ordered the 718 GT4 PDK version immediately

This is my thought exactly. You can get a nice discount on a 2016 GT4 and almost all of them have negligible miles on them. I see them in the upper $70k to low $95k price range. Other than mild styling differences and a little more HP, you’re getting almost the same car. The changes are evolutionary.

That's al nice, but the main difference will be the 718 GT4 PDK version, ETA 2nd quarter 2020

The long gearing from the 6MT (both 981 and 718) is not this car deserves, PDK will be a little shorter, does the car more justice, bonus; it will be faster also
