I don't get the unfair advantage statement. What would be unfair about having a DCT? I get the satisfaction of making a perfect H/T downshift. But after you make 1000's of them the satisfaction is similar to just simply hitting your marks. I would take DCT over MT any day on any track.
Maybe I'm getting old... But ask any Competitive Driver what they would prefer on track and they will all choose the DCT becuase it is an advantage. Just the same as choosing ABS. They will take a weight penalty to have ABS. All that being said, if I think the M2 is going to be good and worth the money I will opt for the DCT. |

can someone respond with proper verification that the M2 will come in a manual transmission. My new car sales manager said the options list he has that was sent from BMW Canada States DCT transmission only. Manual is an option only available in Europe. I would prefer the manual myself if this is an option as I am on the waiting list for this car at my dealer.

I have not seen the actual options list yet but I agree it would be a good way to loose sales...

Just yesterday, I got to drive an M3, X5M, and M5 all with DCT. I also got to drive the new 7, but that's a whole other animal! This was my first time driving a DCT, and I was really impressed, especially with the smoothness of downshifts. It sounds like a lot is going on, but you feel nothing. That being said, I see it more as a novelty and I would probably get bored after a few months of ownership. The brrrrap between upshifts on the X5M is quite entertaining, although for some reason I didn't notice it as much with the M3 or M5.

Manual versus M-DCT: August 2015 comparo between two owners of respectively an M-DCT F80 M3 and a manual F82 M4.
For their conclusion: see from 12:15 onwards.

Manual - have DCT on my M3. It would bother me too much ro have the DCT and no power settings or M buttons

These are always terrible debates. I like to drive a manual transmission but my back makes clutch work over the course of the day difficult and my wife doesn't drive a manual worth a darn so I will be going with a DCT. I love the technology of the DCT, I think it is the best of both worlds.

I really wanted to get my first manual car this time around, and was looking at the golf r, but I am in love with the M2 and sick of the run around vw has been giving me, for the m2 I think it might be too much car for a novice with a stick though.

You can always get a beater car to practice with.
You still have another 6 months before the cars are even at the dealer, let alone the fact that you might not even find a dealer that has a showroom allocation with manual. |

Manual for sure. The way things are going, it may be the last new car I get to order with one!
