Yes. It's quieter than Sport/Sport+ It just has more pops and crackles.
So if I permanently opened the valve manually, then did popcorn mode it would be much louder pops and bangs? Or that won't work?

Probably because your car was just started and cold! It only kicks in a little bit after your car warms up.

If you want to hear something special, put the car in MDM when it's still cold. Don't let it sit and warm up at all. Then wind it up to ~3500rpm in 1st gear and let go of the gas without shifting up or down. It may take some playing with the throttle and drive modes to get it going initially, but it will work and it'll sound like you're doing a drive by shooting.

yah, normal. Its super loud in MPE. you still need to let it sit and warm. I can now time it perfectly with some idling to get it to pop right when I exit the neighbor hood.

It starts popping when you reach about 40C oil temps.

I shouldn't have said immediately, I meant after the cold start procedure. Either way, it's violently loud and awesome. I know most of us know this, I'm just sharing with the newbies.

Question:
I have an M2 LCI with MPE. When standing in neutral, and switch between normal/traction and sport/sport+ it sounds more raw in sport.
Is it true that the left valve operates from the stock exhaust?

I thought it was full open with the bluetooth controller.
Traction mode would be much louder if the left valve stays open I think.

Thanks!

The car mode has no control over the exhaust flaps on the MPE. The mode change effect the fuel mapping, shift modes, etc....
At idle with flaps open when i rev it in comfort vs sport there is a big change in burbles..... not so much between sport and sport +. Same as when I am driving

I have noticed that while in D mode, it barely happens, but once you start doing your own shifts it really releases all the drums!
How can someone drive DCT M2 and not using it in manual mode? I really dont get it. This transmission is made to be used primaly in manual mode and sometimes in traffic in auto.

To each their own. But.... OH YES I AGREE WITH YOU TOTALLY! YES I'M SHOUTING :-) Ooops, sorry, I'm calmer now.

IMHO, everyone should at least try driving in manual mode long enough to forget that they are doing it. Just like you drive stick, you never think about shifting, it's just done. When you get to that point with a DCT... Oh la la!

Last night I spent a lot of time in a long tunnel with traffic crawling along at walking pace. Normally this would have been very boring but I had a whale of a time ! Fabspeed exhaust and sports cat, first gear (manual), traction mode... wait until there's a reasonable space in front then zoom forwards and lift off while still in first gear. I did this at least 10 times and the entire tunnel echoed to the sound of these insane bangs and crackles ! There was a Fiat 500 Abarth alongside and those things also sound pretty good. The two of us were having a real laugh.

The Abarth 500 with the Monza exhaust is a menace. Especially the 595 Competizione. I love that car.

I have a two week old 2018 LCI so I'm testing in the morning. To be continued. One question I have is whether the car for sure has to be in neutral before button press, and whether this effect is only while the car is in +/- configuration. Can you get this effect in DCT auto? I'll test.

The modes can be changed on the fly. Just be careful since this affects the throttle while you have the foot on the gas. This can be scary when you're in comfort and switch to sport+ where the throttle is ramped up for the gas position you're at
