I'm guessing BMW marketing department threatened to quit if they're made to promote six different new M cars within the space of a couple of months.

For its European plants, it's March, July, and November (which is why you see press releases about improvement "measures" in February, June, and October). Their overseas plants are shifted by a month. So in this case, August production is what you should be waiting for.
Wow, this is great info! Thanks for the insight. I’m going to wait then

this seems really odd, as mentioned the LCI isn't due until 2021 on the X3 (2022 model years I think) since it was just launched in 2017.

So if the dash and other options weren't going to be updated until 2021 it makes sense to buy the X3M now.

I can't really remember the last time BMW updated something this major between launch and LCI.

Any chance of Laser lights in August as well?

Adaptive LEDs seem to be the top level option still.

Weird. Who is killing the Laser lights in USA>? regulations are that strict?
BMW was able to go around it in i8. They also found a way with remote start - calling it climatize.
Call the laser lights - outside ambient Illumination.
But for now i got them in new X5 and they are close to useless in 3 areas
- distance limited from 600 to 300 m
- No dazzling option
- no cornering lights

They must be saving the laser lights for the X3 LCI which I’m guessing will be more than just a simple update, but rather a redesign of the lights and grille similar to how they pretty much re-did the entire front end of the 7 series as an LCI. This is all speculation on my part.

Obviously the timing of the new dash is due to a long-planned update cycle for the X3/X4, so that was never a surprise to those working on the X3/X4 M program. Still, in this case, given that the new M models will really only be in production for about four months (from April to July) prior to the update, it is a bit surprising that BMW didn't simply time their release for August.

It is going to be interesting to see what type of reactions this causes both for those who are aware beforehand and struggle with perhaps delaying the purchase even longer and for those who are not aware beforehand and feel slighted when they find out (unfortunate souls not tuned in to BimmerPost). First world problems to be sure, and technically nothing new, but again, four months is really short - maybe the shortest I've seen yet.
Is this really how it is gonna be launched? Seems like a really screwed up plan and will definitely suck big time for the early X3M/X4M buyers. A short few months and the dash will be updated?

Or maybe the X3/X4 won't be getting the updated dash at all (until LCI). This makes more sense.

Always great to see someone truly understand how BMW marketing works.

It makes a lot of sense, and still you will see live dash there in August.

Stalled.

(See what I did here?)

Seriously though, I'm at 95% confidence right now that the US X3 30d and X5 40d will share the fate of RWD F31 or F45 - ready to go, but cancelled due to the lack of perceived demand.

For some people they might not want the new dash or idrive. Personally I'm waiting to order an M5 hoping the '20 MY 5 series will have the new dash and idrive, but it doesn't seem like the change is universally loved.

ynguldyn, Iím seeing the 4 Series convertible/coupe being referred to as the G22/G23 respectively, instead of the other way around. This would be similar to the former 6 Series and now 8 Series where the convertible gets the lowest numbered model code. Thoughts?
