Charge pipe popping off?

At Road America today and the charge pipe popped off at the top. No cracks, Reinstalled and popped right back off. Tries a third time and same. Kinda bummed since the weather was perfect and I only got 1.5 runs in before calling it a day. Fortunately I ran all day yesterday with no issues. I'm not sure of the permanent solution although apparently this is common on N55s (never happened on my 135is though).

Common issue.

One of the first mods I did was replace the oem CP with the ActiveAutowerke Charge Pipe specifically to prevent the issue you had.

Doesn't it use the same spring clip install? It is a common problem and from my research it happens on both aftermarket and stock installs since they all use the same spring clip design. Seems to be a design issue. Anyone know of a solution? For the record I have no tune or performance mods.

I was under the impression that the plastic oem CP was the issue. I'm not positive on the clip used for install. Give AA a call and ask for Andrew or David and they will have the correct answer.

There are two different issues with the charge pipe. The first is that the OEM plastic one gets weak over time and cracks. The aftermarket pipes solve this problem by replacing the plastic with metal. The second problem is that the mount tends to pop off at the spring clip. None of the aftermarkets solve that problem to my knowledge since they use the same mount as the OEM. Only thing I have heard to temporarily solve it is to try and squeeze the clip together to 'bend' it tighter before reinstalling.

If the OEM charge pipe keeps popping off, then it's very like cracked on the bottom portion of the lip and you're not seeing it.

This is what I did with my OEM charge pipe. https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show...4&postcount=48

You may be right. I felt around on the bottom out of sight and it felt intact. But since I couldn't see it I could be wrong. Car is still under warranty so will bring it in this weekend. Heading to Road Atlanta for my season finale in a few weeks so I have time to get this sorted out.

Sure enough. You nailed it. I checked and couldn't feel any cracks. Brought it in and they said there was a small crack on the bottom that was enough for it to come loose under pressure. They replaced and all is well.

I've never heard of an quality aftermarket metal pipe popping off. The plastic reacts differently to heat / pressure vs. the metal.
