M2 timeline
So folks, I've been salivating over an M2 for a few months and have resisted the urge to test drive one because I will buy it. I'm not in the market for one, I dont "need" one, and i know that one day I will buy one. So help me understand the timeline of the M2 (I'm a BMW driver since 2001).
M2 released: 2014 MY M2 LCI: 2018 MY - What were the changes? cosmetic only? M2 Competition - About to be released with a better kit and engine? What will happen to the regular LCI M2 MY 2021 - This would be when the M2 platform should be updated (by BMW standards - 7 years). will the M2 continue or be killed like the 1 series? Thanks folks. Please note I envy all of you who drive this beauty every day. |

So what are ya'll thoughts on prices for low mileage 2017s and 2018s in the near-future? I dont see any discounts on the market quite yet, but it may be too early

These are cars that you love to drive. No matter which year you buy. They are beyond fun. I would think about a used MY2016 if I was in your shoes. The differences are so minor. The 2019 will be no more fun to drive than a 2016. If how quick ""professional (full time) race driver can get a car around a track is really important to you wait till just before they ban gas cars....won't be long the way things are going.
If I was too scared to take a test drive in a car because I thought I might buy it - I would take out a second mortgage and do just that...BUY IT! It will not be a decision you will regret.

I'm certainly not looking for the race car, but a daily driver I can smile in all day long (I even do that in my F10, and did in my e46). Perhaps a lightly used 2017 or 2018 in a year or so for me... |

The M2 is just a big fun toy, and the only question is how long you resist after you start looking at it ... looks like you have passed phase 1 (what is the car?) and moved to phase 2 (which one to buy?) ...

Last correction the M2 is an F87. I was thinking the same as you, but I knew finances could handle it so I went out and tested each version of the 2 series, 230i MSport, M240i and M2. Chose the M2 and have zero regrets. 180 miles to go until break in period is over!

In the next couple months you should be able to find a brand new LCI with a heavy discount as dealers prepare for the M2C to arrive.
