What about scratchability? Its well known that the LCI gauges scratch as soon as you look at them.

What kind of argument is that? What happens if the backlight fails on the pre LCI? You wouldn't be able to read the dials at night or in a tunnel! Both would still need to be fixed urgently.

you can read the dials in the day time on the pre-lci since its just a gray gauge face. As another poster pointed out...the lci has tinted gauges which look blackouted when the backlight is off. Both would need to be replaced but at least with the pre-lci you would be able to drive around during the day.

This would be more relevant to people who drive 6spd manual. Obviously if you drove DCT it wouldnt matter since the computer shifts for you and use can use the navi as the speedo.

Since LED lights practically last forever it is very likely that if the backlight goes out the whole panel would likely blank out.
I still maintain that with the pre LCI or not it would need to be urgently fixed. The argument doesn't hold water.

Ha. I'm more worried about where this thread is heading.

What if!

What if...the differential goes out in the pre-LCI?Many of those cars had to have the rear end replaced because of the famous "soda can crunch" noise. Who's to say that' one of the originals might not fail after the warranty is up...what if.

You mean that you can't shift your MT without a tach? I don't even look at my tach when I shift my MT. Listen to the engine!

They all scratch as soon as you look at them, just name your make and model, it's the same story. Just like the piano black trim on the dash, it is a ridiculous material for a dusty car interior.

I thought this was just an LCI thing.

Each to his own though!

Happy days whatever you decide but for me MT and the sunroof is a must. I open mine everyday even in the rain so I get to hear my MPE!
I thought I was alone in preferring Pre-LCI interior! I do like the LCI head and taillights. May pick up a set of Euro LCI tails to retrofit later, but the price of the headlight retrofit......makes that a hard pass.

Curious what others would pick, assuming the following cars are identically priced:

2017 CPO with 9K miles
2018 non-CPO with 16K miles

Both with exec package, and no sunroof on the 2018.
FWIW, I ended up purchasing the 2017 CPO, mostly for convenience. It was at a BMW dealer an hour away whereas the 2018 LCI was 4 hours away, out of state, at a non-BMW dealer.

The dealer ran the VIN of both cars and the 2018's in service date was only 5 months later, so the CPO is effectively giving me 7 more months of warranty.

Ultimately I was pressed for time, after my 135i was totaled, I needed a car sooner than later.

Since this thread was brought from the dead I'll chime in with my preference:

I prefer everything about the pre-LCI interior including the old school gauges. I don't see the lights as significant improvement. Sure, the new ones will look less dated in 10 years but I really don't care.

If I was looking for a used M2 I would focus on manual transmission, mileage, price, and MPE in this order.

There is no digital one, yet. The LCI is analogue, just backlit so it's easier to see.
