Thin paint ?

I am surprised by how thin the paint on the m2c is. When I took the factory tour they said they only put on one color coating (5 coats in total). 1200km on my ED and I already have deep rock chips (thank you shitty Swiss roads) and the door paint scrapped off when I gently hit a wall while opening. My Mazda had better paint quality.

Ever since the auto industry changed to water based paint, it chips easier.

The only way to prevent rock chips and the windshield pits is to never drive your car or to have the whole car wrapped. All modern cars (including high end brands) have shitty paint job thanks to governments requiring water based paints.

You can learn to fill in the paint chip so that they are invisible from 5 ft away. I use factory touch-up paint to slightly overfill the chipped area and then knock the high spot down with nail polish remover (acetone). Make sure you wipe away excess acetone right away with wet microfiber towel. Then I use my random orbital polisher to polish the area and it becomes almost invisible unless you intentionally look for it.

Agreed, very thin. And this is why I pulled the trigger on PPF. So far, no more chips!

Schweiz is a beautiful land. but the roads man. I was driving to St. Moritz from Stelvio, it was night time around 10 pm and suddenly the lane disappears. the opposite lane is intact but there is no road ahead of me except a sign of a guy digging. my German friend suggests I drive carefully on the opposite lane but its night time, curvy road so we decided to park on the side and think what to do. Then a ford suv comes by and just barrels through the dirt. We had to do the same thing driving slowly but that piece of road definitely did some damage to my car. And not to mentioned I missed out on Gothard pass, Furka pass and the Schwarzwald because I was spending that sweet time waiting in Swiss traffic.

Had my car 1 week and driving German autobahns has taken its tolls already on the bumper and hood. It goes in for PPF Tuesday directly after the break in service on Monday.

Yeah I decided not to get PPF and then noticed the paint was easily chipped. Got PPF after that. I regret not doing it sooner.

Paint is also heavy so more paint, more weight.

PPF doesn't always prevent rock chips, it's really a roll of the dice.

I also have a Mazda and can assure you that their paint quality is not better than BMWs. Most OEMs are equally crappy these days.

X2. Porsche is exactly the same process as BMW. BMW paint is excellent quality. You need to look a paint on GM cars to see what chitty thin paint looks like

I am not so sure. I have a chevy bolt and I think its got stronger paint than the m2. the m2c paint looks like plastidip and easily peelable.

The guy who did the ceramic coating on my M2C told me GM was the worst with paint. He said he typically has to do a lot of paint corrections on those even brand new but there was nothing he had to do on mine. He told me BMW does good paint work.

Good old days of lead paint and asbestos...

seriously, because it's such a creampuff paint job I find myself considering the road route so much more

290 west NO, construction
90 west Mass pike NO, worse construction
Rte 9 west finished construction but hillbillies #Merica and lots stop lights

Decisions Decisions

Also why I picked AW, easy to blend the inevitable touch ups

Try matching HS on a year old M2, gunna look like a friend did it with a spay can

I’ve owned pretty well everything from domestic to German and current Japanese paint is the worst in the industry. Subaru and Honda paint in particular is horrifically soft and thin.

This for sure. I have a WRX and Forester XT and the paint is nano thin. Other than that I love the cars, but it is definitely noticeable how bad the paint is on those cars. PPF'd the M2C, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
