It's a machine sharing the same collection of parts attached to metal frame; I never said it was M car in the marketing sense but I saw the engineers give an interview and explains that it share the running components as BMW M vehicles.

Its got a pedestrian B58 in it which i can literally get in a bog standard 3 series. Brakes are not even high end and unvented. The whole car is out of the BMW parts shop but not the M parts shop. the suspension is soft and wallows like a normal BMW. I bet the Adaptive suspension is the same as the 3 series also.

Its a tweaked Z4 with a hard top. Nothing more.

The supras front end makes me think of the civic type r as godzilla fighting the giant moth. Im just a sucker for european cars. And their design, for the most part.

50k is still pricy and it has no manual. No manual!! A supra with no manual. At 50k.

It's extremely frustrating to carry on a conversation with those guys, and I am someone who supports the Supra and would have bought one if it came with manual transmission. Who wouldn't like a budget BMW sports car? But it's impossible to be objective with the Toyota crowd. They resent BMW's involvement and make crazy claims that exaggerate Toyota's involvement. If you believe them, Toyota has influenced the engineering of the entire B58 family and the BMW CLAR platform (because it wasn't good enough for Toyota to begin with).

Me, I look at the Supra and the parts diagrams and all the real world evidence, and it's so clearly a BMW. No doubt Toyota did their own design, tuned the suspension, and supplied their own specs for the engine/transmission maps, but everything else is BMW, down to the smallest detail. There are many features and details (cosmetic and deeper) that Toyota could have easily changed to make the car more Toyota and less BMW, and they either couldn't or chose not to.

The other funny thing is watching new Supra owners try to figure out the car and iDrive. Behaviors that BMW owners take for granted are foreign to them, but instead of trying to learn from existing BMW knowledge, they are digging into it like it's all new Toyota technology.

The whole situation is bizarre to me. Ignorance is bliss I guess!

There are Toyota "enthusiast" boards? Who knew?! Why?

Either the TuRD division must make seriously better appliances than the rest of the company, and I've been missing them, or I need to re-examine my definition of enthusiast

That's not to say in some weird, twisted way I'm not pulling for the Supra and Toyota to find their direction back to the enthusiast car arena. Even if it is with BMW's or someone else's help. More options is always better

I saw my first Supra in the flesh last night (I am in San Diego for work) and I have to admit, it looked pretty good going by, and also had a pretty nice exhaust note.

This particular car was black, which I think looks great on the Supra - not sure the yellow or red versions in most of the review videos show off the lines in the best way.

I am planning to check one out when I get back to Chicago.

Seems to me Toyota was never all in with the Supra and shortly after the project began they pulled back resources and decided to outsource most of the project to BMW keeping their costs down. BMW has already announced they are canning the Z4 which is not very promising. And then there's the elephant in the room, or should I say Stingray.

Supra like the new Corvette are cars I have no interest in at this point of my automotive taste. I have owned those type of cars when I was a younger guy before becoming more interested in German brands. I am too eurocentric at this point to care but I am also not a price point buyer either. I like what I like have to love the design and certainly don’t need to have outside opinions try to spend my money. Hence why I am on a BMW forum.

Some people will never be happy with what they own and the grass is always greener. I get that and I did that years ago with a Ferrari from Porsche only to find the grass may be poison ivy on the other side of the fence. I promise that if I gave them $120k to shut up and buy what will make them happy, they would eventually find fault and bitch about whatever with it. It’s chronic pessimism on automotive forums with these people.

Buy what you like and love what you drive.

Gotcha. FYI Drilled and/or slotted is not the same as vented vs non-vented.

Anyway, i get what you're saying and yea. Kinda cheap to have basic non-slotted or cross drilled rear rotors.

Thats amazing if they find an idiot to pay $108k for a Toyota. I applaud them for the effort and level of extortion.

Supra seems like the better handling car. Not surprised since the Supra was built more of a sports car than the M2.

It would be cool to see how the M2 CS performs against the Supra. Seems like the M2 CS might not sell well due to the Supra performing so good and being cheaper than the M2 comp.

Supra needs 6MT or DCT before I even consider buying one.

If I were in the market for a new 60-70k sports car, I would consider C8 corvette first.

Its a different demographic for most as price is not that big of a buying influence. Personally I would never be interested in a Toyota (Lexus) coming from European cars.

Heard that someone will be doing a 2JZ swap soon into the current Supra.

The aftermarket world sure isn't wasting anytime on the Supra.

This is where the Supra Demographics is gonna take the car. Its going to be a mod-centric platform with its owners. It also will make a big screen appearance for the kids in some new "Too fast to care" type movie to aspire to.
I hope it does well as way too much hype on the latest Vette seems to be distracting from other interesting cars. Not everyone will like the Toyota Supra just like not everyone will want a GM Vette. Choice is a good thing.
