Powder Coated 788M Gloss Black

Turned out perfect. This is how they should have come from the factory. I was never a big fan of the tinted wheel, I mean, for a stock wheel, it looks good, but in my opinion, all gloss black looks so much better & really sets off the calipers and the overall car.

why would you go gloss black. Keeping gloss black clean is a miserable existence.

I wish i had anthracite to hide the dust/watermarks/grime that is on there even if after i wash them.

My favorite part of the wheel was the smoked silver trim that you have painted over

You...are...crazy.
I'm getting the wheels ceramic coated, that will take care of any watermarks, dust, & grime lol.

I hope you can apply and share the miracle product that repels brake dust so well that it can be sprayed off without wiping and drying and still look perfect.

The wheels do look good though.

I know I'm weird but I do not get the trend of painting wheels all black, regardless of whether they are gloss black, matte black or whatever. They just look like black blobs and you can't even see the wheel design any more. Please don't shoot me.

Same here. I made the mistake of powder coating my winter 640m wheels gloss black and now I'm selling them and taking a huge hit on the price because! Lesson learned lol! But wheels are fully up to the owner! Some like gold, black blue... etc!

Nothing weird about that. Some prefer stock wheels, some prefer aftermarket wheels, others like the look of the stock wheels but don't like the coloring (like me). The beauty of it is, there are options for all.

This is a no shooting zone 😎. I just sold a car that I had upgraded to satin black wheels. They looked great on my white car. It's a race look. Been there done that. I want a custom graphite color for my next ones.

Trust me, it looks better in real life; pictures make all black look blurred but they're actually appear very defined and unique, especially flat black color wheels.

Subjective analysis always comes up with black wheels. Doesn't matter what "you" like, it's not "your" car. The funniest comments on black wheels are the ones that say it's played out. Yeah, like silver that has been used for decades isn't.

OP, I think they look great!

I just wipe them down every couple of days...takes about 10 minutes.

Personally I would never wipe brake dust off. That stuff is like sandpaper. I jet wash them before using a microfiber mit with mild soap and water.

Looks correct, thanks to all the factory blacked out trim on the comp.

Call me crazy but I actually like my black 788M covered in brake dust. The break dust hides the ugly chrome polish on the exterior portion of the spokes so in return makes the wheel look more 'black'.

This is precisely why black looks great on the 788M which is not exactly a pretty wheel design to begin with. Black as shown above ensures you spend more time looking at the actual car than the overly busy looking 788M wheels being the first thing that catches your eye. Conversely the 437M wheels look much better in Ferric Grey because it highlights the five double spoke classic design which always looks good.

I feel the M2C front end is an improvement over the OG but for some reason the M2C never looked right to me until I saw pictures of owners that got the optional 437M wheels making the car look like an OG M2 with nicer front end. The 788M wheels are just too busy, too distracting and make the car look bigger than it is. This is just my opinion of course.

I also had mine stripped and sprayed gloss black and the results were really good. But as others have mentioned I don't think they've ever looked "clean" after more than a few miles of driving

Great timing on this thread. In a month of ownership I managed to curb two wheels. I haven't curbed one is over ten years! So of course the original finish cannot be replicated so I am going to have to pick a new color. Not sure if black is the answer, though it looks good on the Alpine White car. Same color as mine. Open to suggestions!

thanks for this! your car looks great with gloss black.

I'm picking mine up on Saturday after an airbag recall nightmare and based on your pics, I'm having the wheels powder coated as we speak. Just not a fan of silver "not so black" wheels on a silver car. I realize black wheels have been overplayed, but it's the look I want and that's what matters Can't wait!

Sounds like the safe pick is to get them stripped to raw aluminum so when you curb it for the third time no one will notice.
