I started a thread on this subject several months ago. Mine hasn’t acted up in a few months so I am ignoring the problem right now until my next service.

Took my M2 into Vines uk BMW today for the indicator fault I have video evidence and the mechanic saw the fault when I arrived !
They have checked it out for the second time but will not change out the rear lighting unit under warranty ?.
I know others that have had this work completed under warranty ?

Well at least the hard part is out of the way.

I spoke with mine again today, since I was in there for something else, and he agreed to replace my driver's taillight too. Just gotta schedule an appt. for him to pull the error code to send to BMW.

Mine is at the point where it's completely un-usable in the rain or after a car wash. Blinks fast constantly and throws a warning. I guess it is technically usable, but it's definitely embarrassing and annoying to use like that. Based on another thread, it seems like a design flaw that is letting water in, so not sure if the issue will come back or not, but I hope not.

It doesn't matter anyhow; nothing is wrong with your taillight hardware itself; it's a ground wire short causing the rapid flashing. Swapping them for new ones is a waste of time.

The rate that a flasher unit blinks at is controlled by how much current flows through it. Reduction of current to a parallel circuit due to a overloaded ground and flash rate increases.

The Pre-LCI used three separate ground wires to combat this issue, the LCI only uses one, for some strange reason. The only solution is to DYI a ground for each tail light separately to the chassis, independent of the vehicle's common ground.

I get that most folks are just going to ignore this and just keep fruitlessly bitching to dealer but it's not going to solve anything.

Just don't say not one told you so.
