How did you convince the dealer to give you the update?

I have an OG M2 pre-facelift, reverse beeping is still there, annoying. Had hoped this bug was fixed. Steering seems to be different, too. Also the engine sound. In comfort mode it sounds a tad more metallic / raw in the lower revs. In DSC off the burbles / farts are a little muted I would say. Under load there's still that fantastic boom between 4-5k rpm when you suddenly lift off the pedal (HJS downpipe). So, all in all I would say it's worth to do the update. |

Well, I asked my dealer. But I had to pay for it, too.

In MDM you now have throttle response "Sport", no "Comfort" anymore. But it's pretty "Poser mode" with the burbles and cracks still. Too pronounced for my tasting, that's why I haven't used very often in the past. |

I was straight up with them and told them I want the update for my own enjoyment but also to fix the TCS issue at high speed (kicking in at 60mph on dry road and 6th gear). The service advisor was open to a little cheating and marked down my issue as a iDrive problem to avoid headaches when convincing the manufacturer to update the car. I guess I just got lucky.
I was on 505 (2017/05 car) something starting with J, so pretty old. |

I had a software update done today and I've noticed no tangible difference.
The iDrive menu has a few new options and I did lose all of my custom coding, of which some items I could never recode, due to the revised software missing some CAFD files but other than that, every else is all the same. Anyone that claims otherwise, let me know; I have a bridge to sell you |

I had my update around august/september time this year and the only difference I noticed was the mdm mode is alot more free. I did not notice any power gains post adaptations and logging the boost also showed no increase over the normal values.
The istep update also gave me accessed to: idrive 6 lite without the 5 series background and it gave me the 2 series back ground tile, f87cs steering which wasn't available for me on a July 2016 build car, and I coded gts mdm as well.

Just got my car back from dealer yesterday, took it in for some random issues, one of which was fixed by a software update (6MT stalling/lunging while in neutral - there's a bulletin out for this, and states software update is the fix.)
For sure the steering feels quite different, much more precise and just enough of a heavy feeling to feel just right to me. MDM definitely seems free-er as I learned on a hard 90 degree right turn lol. Feels like a brand new car. My 2017 OG M2 is a July 2016 build iirc, so perhaps people who have newer cars may not notice such a big difference. I'm loving it though! |

Use Esys and a proper launcher to access the FDL files.
Then under the EPS module go to Variantencodierung, change it from Normal to F87CS and code. This is for F87CS steering. You can get M4 gts mdm too under the DSC module: 3CODIERDATEN_ALLGEMEIN, 20 C_Variante_Fahrzeug_e change this to F82 GTS. Do this at your own risk.

Amp cover QEP retrofit done this morning while I waited and latest istep updated (F020 1911538).
Too early to tell any differences. Idrive seems quicker and DCT gbox shifts are smoother in comfort/MDM/DSC off modes but that might be just due to adaptions being reset....

I'm keen to try out an istep update but also worried about losing the pops and burbles.. has anyone actually downgraded their istep version through their dealer?
