HELP! M Performance Exhaust Red Button Bridge
Hi Guys,
as you know thanks to the EU and they're stupid regulations, the New 2017 MPE has a stupid red button in the boot to basically take the responsibility off of BMW's hands and put the sole blame on the driver. i being unfortunately one of the first customers of the new exhaust have to get this stupid system in my car, and with my dealer being reluctant to really help because they're scared they will get in trouble i need to find a way to bridge it so the red button can stay there so it looks like its doing something but at the same time the Bluetooth remote staying active so i don't have to keep getting out and pressing it. Now i read somewhere you have to cross Black + Black and Grey plus brown and this does it, but i want to know if anyone has had any experience with this and if BMW can't do it then can i just ask a normal electrician to do it? please help! thanks Kris. |

Hi,
I did mine a few weeks back after I got it, stupid bloody button. Now all this is at your own risk, so make sure the master exhaust control switch is off before you start. Loosen the side panel to get your hand behind it and you will feel a square plug that joins the red button to the harness. Unplug it and the 12v power socket to give yourself some more room. There are 4 wires going to the red button, well at least on mine there are - two red, two black. I shorted the two black wires by ramming a small piece of wire into the cable holders of the square plug. It has to be quite small, I used a piece of cable from a PC power adaptor. Hold it in place with a cable tie, power the exhaust controller back on and voila! The red light on the red button is on permanently now and the remote is active as soon as you start the car. If you do now have two red and two black wires, you are on your own! Took me maybe 20 mins faffing with all the trim pieces that need to come off as well. Simon PS not my pic but you get the idea. |

I don't know if you watch JP Performance on Youtube, but he was talking about his button finding its way forward. Maybe shoot them an email or give them a call.
Sorry I am not more help. |

Oh god.
I hadn't heard of this, what's this now. You need to press a button in the boot and double click the Bluetooth fob. Jaysus, getting a bit ridiculous now!

Just for Europe - start car, get out and go into boot/trunk and press red button, then get back in car and press remote to activate loud mode.
Supposedly it is to deter use on the road in loud setting - I think it is a bodge to try and stop the startup rattle. S |

So yes, the button is dumb and a PITA, but BMW is too smart to get dinged with legal fees from users who are in breach of the waiver. |

Pretty sure the MPE is independent from driving setting configuration (Comfort, Sport, Sport+) hence the additional bluetooth fob Coding won't work |

i found that you can turn the exhaust on while the ignition is on so you can cold start with full flaps open, on the plus side the flaps never close by themselves, i've sort of got used to pressing the button, its a pain but im over it. the sound is worth it. makes people smile from all angles

Just a quick question. Does anyone know what is the red pimple button part called? Just for me to refer to it when talking to the dealer?

To be fair, the exhaust is obnoxiously loud when the button is clicked. It's not fun being on the sidewalk when someone decides to try to impress unsuspecting people with loud exhaust.
There is a reason it's for track use and it is a health related issue, keep that in mind please. |
