Weird knocking noise...

Yesterday my car was making noises that sounded like rusty brake pads that hasnt been used. It was coming from the rear passenger side.

Today it happened again while driving but it stopped all of a sudden. Then the car sounded like it ran over empty soda cans. THEN it sounded like i was dragging metal on the ground. Everything was coming from the rear passenger side.

I couldnt find anything out of the ordinary. Everything looked to be exactly where they should. Nothing hanging or sticking out. Nothing stuck in the wheel or between the calipers.

I stop the metal noise by driving in reverse. And it did sound like i was dragging the metal in the opposite direction.

Cant get to a shop til tuesday. Im at a lost.

I bet a buck it was a rock stuck in the dust shield. Common thing. Sounds terrible.

Stone stuck behind your disc shield for sure.

Driving backwards is the best way to get it out.

Did Not happen to my M2C but on my wifes A4 and it sounds like your dragging a piece of metal under your car. My wife freaked out. Just go find a parking lot and go fast in reverse and jam the brakes on. That usually cleans it out. I had to do this with my 911 some times. Its usually cinders left over from winter that makes the perfect size rocks to get jammed.

Used to hear rocks in my brakes once in a while with sports cars many years ago, but did not hear it again for a decade or so until I got my 2019 X3 M40i last August. About 10 days into ownership it happened and scared the heck out of me. It made about 4-5 different sounds, from screeching to grinding, and then a big bang and pop like a part fell off the car. At the time I was thinking, well whatever it was fell off and can't hurt me anymore.

My 2007 Saab 93 Aero would get it multiple times every winter because of the cinders used on the roads. It's actually one of the reasons I was looking forward to the M2, hoping it wouldn't have the same issue. Didn't get to drive my M2 much last winter, but haven't had it happen to me yet.
