Reading off my invoice, the parts (which I'm sure are at BMW list) were: Windshield 51-31-7-240-639 $406.33 Cover, Windshield 51-31-7-240-671 $40.97 Bump Stop (10 used) 51-31-7-288-462 $2.84 each = $28.40 Sound Insulation F Apron 51-48-7-325-890 $42.98 Sensor Rain/Light/Solar/Cond 61-35-7-939-173 $247.70 Windshield Adhesive Kit 83-19-2-289-180 $44.00 PHC Parts Handling $1.99 SUBL Install Windshield PO#B5172 $105. I believe this must have been a charge for installation, presumably from a sub-contractor, but done in their BMW shop. Parts were $812.37 My dealer is at the low end for charges, when I compare what I pay for various repairs and services, to what I see posted on these forums. My best guess is that forum members in California seem to pay about 1.5X as much for the same services I get at my dealership in Idaho. This is to say that I sincerely doubt that your windshield replacement used all of the same 100% BMW parts as mine did. Differences could possibly be such things as non-branded but purported to be OEM quality glass, reusing of some things that in my case were just replaced, or use of some generic supplies and parts. I know nothing about any of this stuff other than that I have no faith in generic windshield replacement glass for better quality cars such as these BMWs, although I would probably not hesitate to use, for example, Safelight glass, in a Subaru.

The only parts they replaced were the windshield and a molding kit . the windshield was 450 and the molding 50=500 parts . i ordered the parts myself form the dealer and had the installer pick them up. they used my rain sensor and camera i also have the exec pack . everything works fine .by the way none of the parts were used or counterfeit ..come on. carl

Windshields have gotten much more complicated over the last few years. Being as my car is 6MT, and does NOT have the executive package, as far as I know the only thing the sensor is doing is controlling the automatic windshield wipers when it is raining. My car had 1100+ miles on it when the replacement was done last week, although the damage happened at around 800 miles. If anyone's car was a candidate for reusing the sensor, it would be mine, given its young age (delivery in March) and limited mileage. As to other parts that may or may not have been reused in your repair, that were replaced in mine, I am similarly without the knowledge base necessary to comment. All I do know is that I have a good dealer, with an excellent service dept., with which I have had lots of experience going back to my 1993 325i, and more recently the 4 BMWs I currently own. I also know that my total replacement, with all BMW parts, came in at a lower price than I have read about in this forum from other participants having similar replacements done. In summary, I am in no position to comment on how your windshield was repaired. I only know what was done to my car, and that I have a good dealer and that the repair has turned out fine.

Just got my car back from the dealer only to realize there was a huge crack in the windshield under the wiper blade. After a few days of going back and forth and a surveillance review, one of the kids who was washing the car cracked it, therefore BMW is completely taking care of everything, along with the brand new ceramic tint I had installed on the car, and some serious scratches put on the car from the car wash. These are some of the things that just shouldn't even happen in the first place.

I cracked it too with the when the windshield wiper came off and the arm hit it. I had it done at Safelite and was very impressed with their service. Now waiting for some ceramic to arrive so I can apply it to all my windows.

In case anyone ever needs it, we are also equipped to recalibrate the forward windshield mounted camera as part of a windshield replacement. |

I just got mine replaced and it looks absolutely brand new - don't worry about it.
At 43K on the clock on my car, I'm lucky just have had one so far. |
