M-performer coilovers pre-adjustment????

Hello-

My M2 competition is currently at my performance shop having the coilover installed.

I don't remember seeing the instruction manual inside the box sealed directly from BMW. Production date was this year for build.

I understand that the recommended height setting is 20m all the way around. does anyone know if they come preset at 20m from BMW directly??

Really quick search would have led you to this thread:

https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1391804

That had this:

https://www.shopbmwusa.com/PDF/BMW_M...ion_Manual.pdf

Does that help solve your question? If not, I can try to track down the larger one.

EDIT: Larger one if you can read German:

Also some good feedback in the threads here:

Yeah I did some more digging and couldn't find it either. Maybe call a performance shop like EAS and see if they know? They do installs of these a ton I believe.

Well- I was not sure if Tech new this. But It's BMW Performance shop. But then again- I have not given them the chance yet to do the install. So the PDF I am reading form BMW for MP-Suspense at the bottom of the 4th page. It's saying that please adjust back to stock ride height when you receive the car. I don't get that. So I was not sure if they are referring to 20MM or stock height.

If it's the installation instructions, it says 600mm rear, 595mm front, as measured from the lowest point on the rim to the highest point on the underside of the wheel arch. This is on the bottom of page 6 for the front axle, and the top of page 7 for the rear axle.

Above the factory settings of the M performance suspension on my 2020M2C.
It's a tad lower than standard, for me the perfect fit.
In combination with the M performance forged wheels the stance is beautiful.
When the set was mounted (at new delivery with the dealer) it was ca 5mm higher, so it settles +5mm. I would not like the car to be lower.
Handling wise, icw the wheels and the cup tires, this is another game than lowering springs and the std tyres. This is pure mechanical grip. Dampener settings are also as prescribed. The car is more comfortable than std. In the end it is the quality of suspension that counts I guess.

Attached install manual in English. Reference page 6 and page 7 for instructions on ride height adjustment. The ride height is set after the suspension is installed with 75 kg weight on driver and passenger seat. It is measured from the bottom of the wheel to the fender. It is not set prior to install because the ride height depends on the car's weight distribution. If it is set prior to install it is unlikely each corner will be at the correct height. Hope this clears it up.

Thanks Guys!

Also I was a little confused that on some of the websites for ordering this kit I saw that there's an extra hardware kit for $87 I ordered my MP kit from IND and they did not say anything about an additional hardware kit for install.

That would be all the single use nuts and bolts.

Do I need that? Or should I let the installer deal with that.

Tbh I have no idea. It sits at the recommended settings for 19" wheels, which is the earlier mentioned 595/600 dimension.
I posted the picture as reference what that means. It's pretty low without being too Barry Boy, if you know what I mean.
They did the 75kg as well and while doing so cornerweighed and adjusted the car.
1627kg with 75kg on the driver seat and a full tank.
That's a fat lady ;-)

You should probably ask the installer if they are going to do it or not.

BMW sell an add-on kit with all the bolts/nuts.

If your installer has priced to include then you are ok if not then they re-use the existing fittings.

Understanding what BMW recommends as the proper height, here's what we did as a starting point and we didn't change it once the springs settled. The fronts were set to 12.5mm (using a digital caliper) measured from the remaining top thread (below the to the base of the locking ring) to the base (below last available thread). The rears were dialed till they bottomed out based on other members indicating to set them to their lowest setting. Today, we sit at 23 1/2" or 596.9 in the front and 23 5/8" or 600mm in the rear. These were installed on December 5th 2019.

Husband setup everything off the car with all the necessary parts so all he had to do was remove the entire assembly and swap in the new assembly (fronts).

Hope that helps,
M
