Since nearly zero dealers are selling the Type R without serious markup, can we please throw the 35k number out the window? It's going for min 40k around the country.

Megane R.S. Trophy £30k car here in the UK is also faster I think. Trophy R even more so but that's a 2 seat, CUP2 and roll cage car.

Man for supposed car people, lots of snobby remarks about the Civic Type R....you apparently haven't driven one. While I decided to buy an M2C over the Type R, it doesn't mean that car wasn't a respectible contender. It's a top 100 lap time for a 4 cylinder FWD car on the Ring, hate its aesthetics all you want but for 35k, thats a hella lot of car for 35k. Also interior is red b/c, thats the Type R colorway, just like M is the Red and Blue stripes....

Thou shall not speak foul words about King Civic Type R's shapes, inside and out, for that is a personal opinion and thus a violation of law. Thou shall be banned!

Or something like that.

Either way from this point forward I will simply refer the New Civic Type-R as a "Type-R" vs a "Civic"...
2 seconds quicker in that short track is a huge time diff.

Nurburgring local m2 competition videos

Hello to all forum members.
I hope that I am posting in the right area??? I'm not used to forums but thought that I would give this a try.
I live at the Nurburgring and have recently bought a BMW M2 Competition and have upgraded it to a "track tool".
For anyone interested I am posting some videos on YouTube filmed from my car to show the performance against other bench mark cars here at the Ring.
I have attached a couple of links to some recent videos below and which will link to my channel for those who wish to follow. Hope you enjoy!
Regards from the Nurburgring!
Paul

Nice! What kind of modifications do you have? Also what lap times are you able to run?

I will be on the Ring next Monday with Schnell Schwaben. Only mods I have are PFC08 pads and Castrol SRF brake fluid. Still on stock Michelin PSS tires.

Also consider the Track/AutoX/Dragstrip to post videos.

Hey, also curious. What do you do about track insurance. Nordschleife is a high risk track, particularly during turistenfahren. Do you get extra insurance or does the normal German auto policy cover at least the driver education or HPDE?

Hi,
The car is German registered therefore it has insurance for Touristenfahrt and I have an additional insurance for all track days.

Video was uploading maybe and should work now.

Here's another video taken from a friends car....

Paul, finally got to watch some of the videos, I love that first one. Great vantage point and a great clean and fast lap. 7.43 BTG or so by my count? Impressive!

What mods do you have?

The car is getting better with upgrades. We are not allowed to time tourist laps on the Nordschleife T.F I think the car is now at 7.15 - 7.20 and with a better driver could go 7.05 - 7.10
I will change to Direzza from Trofeo R next, change suspension settings and see what improvement we get.
Here's another video which shows the cars potential

Keeping up with a GT3RS on the straights, how many HP do you have?

Like Rolls Royce say.....adequate!! It's a combination of reducing weight, the right combination of tyres, brakes and chassis changes. Improving as a driver is one of the most important investments one can make before changing the car. There are lots of fast cars here with average drivers. Finding a fast driver and fast car combination always equals fun and a learning experience. The extra speed out of corners and a turbo engine make a big difference to the speed on the straight.

I understand. But is it (chip)tuned?

And that's why I do track/driftdays for>15 years now with almost stock(brakefluid/pads sometimes) cars.

A car is as fast as its driver. But still.
A GT3RS is also much faster in a straight line. So you don't have the stock 410PS I guess.

Cheers

Unable to say here if the software has been changed because that would invalidate my warranty ;-)

I've been reading about the 2021 CTR LE cars coming to the US. I'm a solid BMW guy (BMWCCA since 1997), and have owned too many BMWs. That said, I don't care so much what this thing looks like, as long as it's a BLAST TO DRIVE! I'd be happy driving one of the 600 coming to the US.

This BMW vs. Honda conversation has occurred before! >>

2021 Civic Type R Limited Edition:

Ultimate Track-Focused Type R Coming to America

Special lightweight features include forged wheels, reduced sound deadening
Exclusive Phoenix Yellow color scheme
600 units coming to U.S., each with unique numbered plaque
MILAN, February 20, 2020 – The ultimate street-legal track-focused variant of Honda’s legendary Civic Type R will arrive on American shores later this year, the company announced today. The lighter, faster and even more ferocious 2021 Type R Limited Edition will feature all of the 2020 model year Type R updates, plus additional enhancements designed to make it the ultimate street-legal Type R track machine. Only 600 units of the 2021 Type R Limited Edition, all in brilliant new Phoenix Yellow and each with an individually numbered serial plate, will be sold in the U.S., with availability starting this fall.

2021 Civic Type R Limited Edition modifications from stock include:

Lightweight, forged aluminum wheels from acclaimed manufacturer BBS (18 lb. total unsprung weight reduction)
Further weight reduction of approximately 28 pounds accomplished via reduced sound deadening materials and removal of features such as the rear wiper, tonneau cover, rear heater ducts
Specially tuned dampers
Recalibrated steering for maximum control and feedback
Paying homage to past Type R Limited Edition models, the 2021 Civic Type R Limited Edition will come in one model-exclusive color: Phoenix Yellow. Additional model-exclusive treatment includes contrasting gloss black paint on the roof, outside mirror caps, and intake vent on the hood, along with a dark chrome Civic badge on the rear hatch.

The new Type R Limited Edition shares the 2020 Civic Type R mechanical and design updates. In addition, all Limited Edition models will feature an individually numbered serial plate denoting the vehicle’s original country of sale.

Like the standard Type R, the Limited Edition also receives the Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies as standard equipment, including Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with Forward Collsion Warning, Road Depature Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Under the hood, the 2021 Civic Type R draws power from the same race-bred 2.0-liter direct-injected and turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with VTEC™ valvetrain, putting out a peak 306-horseopwer and 295 lb.-ft. of torque (both SAE net), with power to the front wheels delivered through a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential.

As with the “standard” Type R, drivers can choose between three driving modes – Comfort, Sport and +R – that vary damping force, steering assist and throttle mapping. The new-for-2020 Active Sound Control modifies interior sound in concert with chosen drive mode.

I really doubt the Limited Edition is going to be that much more valuable or special than the regular Type R. It's mostly just that color that's special. It's easy to change wheels and nobody is going to care about a few silly badges on top of the Type R stuff.

That said, the Type R in and of it's self is pretty damn cool. I'm just bummed we wont get the adult version here in the states with it's less gaudy bodywork.
