Probably bumpstops (aka 2nd dampers in BMW-speak) being compressed...

SI B34 08 14 Ticking Noise from Front Axle When Cornering

SITUATION

The customer may complain of a ticking noise from the front axle when cornering, maneuvering, parking or

pulling away from a parking space. The noise can be heard as a light metallic ticking from the front outer

cornering wheel.

CAUSE

Movement between the brake disc and wheel bearing hub.

CORRECTION

Remove and clean the front axle brake discs.

Sand the hub surface on the brake disc

to the wheel bearing hub using 80-grit

sandpaper.

Sand the surface in a radial motion

(inside to outside around the surface.

Clean the wheel bearing hub surface.

Important!!

Do not sand the hub surface.

Do not apply any type of lubricant to

the components surface (wheel bearing

or brake disc).

Reinstall the front axle brake discs.
Bumping this thread as my car is going to an independent shop tomorrow to try to fix the creaking/clicking suspension. Apologies but english is not my first language, and I want to be sure I understand the TSB correctly : The shop should only sand the brake disc and no other part of the vehicle, right ?

Thanks a lot for any help !

It is saying that the inner mounting surface of the brake disk should be sanded, but nothing else.

Before you try this fix there is another cause for front strut creaking/clicking not mentioned in this thread and concerns cars that have had work done that involves strut removal (eg front springs/camber plates). The strut pinch bolt/nut is directional (the bolt head must face forward/direction of travel per Repair Manual) & is spec'd as one time use. 2 weeks after I installed my Ohlins I started getting the noises, ended up finding a thread in the F80 forum mentioning the pinch bolt and then when I went to re-check the torque I found I had reversed the bolt when re-installing Turned it around and torqued a little tighter than spec as I didn't replace it and noise was gone never to return.

Thank you for your reply and clarification. I saw the pinch bolt thread and it is the first thing I will ask the shop to check. This is my last attempt, I want the shop to try everything. If the car doesn't get fixed I will have them put the car back to stock and give up

I took delivery of a 2020 M2 Comp in August. Right away I noticed a significant metallic ping, creak, or tick sound coming from the front suspension. It would happen when entering my driveway or articulating the front suspension but also when turning the steering wheel while maneuvering into a parking spot. It was not a repeating rotational noise associated with the front wheels turning or related to applying the brakes. It sounded like something was loose or shifting whenever a load was applied.

They checked out the calipers and tried the shim fix between the hub and disc. The dealer eventually diagnosed it as a problem on the upper front strut. They ordered new guide supports and washers (basically the upper mounting of the strut where it bolts to the frame) and replaced both driver and passenger side parts.

It appears to have fixed the problem so far...

This is the issue I am having ...for example if I got to back in to my spot ...I will pull up and do a hard turn to the left to line up my rear end to start backing up .

It’s at that point when I make that hard left that mid turn I get one loud “PING”

Same type of ping when I apply the front brake and low speeds too .

I wonder if I need your fix ... I am going to bring this up to my guy .
