Concentric vs Eccentric Bracing: http://www.seismicresilience.org.nz/...braced-frames/ I always had the ARC brace in my wish list. To the guy asking, both are available here. I was speaking to a guy a while ago with them and he said he received his in less than a week. https://global.rakuten.com/en/store/...item/10000858/ https://global.rakuten.com/en/store/...item/10002592/ I was also looking up carbon tubes and titanium pipe fittings. I may meet with a fabricator and see about making my design one day. I never wanted it for the stiffness, but to stop my laundry basket from sliding forward and tipping over when I go to do laundry. I have my rear seats removed. KC Designs is another one that makes a rear brace for the M2 https://www.tw-kcdesign.com/products_6_32_135.htm https://www.tw-kcdesign.com/about_39.htm Last edited by Anthony1s; 04-25-2020 at 10:21 PM.. |

I have received the brace but will only be installing in a month or two.
It was well packaged and seems very stiff

Thanks. I might get shit for this, partly due to me not having the time right now to explain myself. As well as opening myself up to backlash for me shitting a on product someone bought. But the entire bottom triangle of that brace provides zero structural rigidity or purpose. The design is ridiculously flawed. I mentioned it briefly previously, but seeing more detail pictures shows me it's much worse than I had thought.

I still think that connecting the strut mounting points or at least the body shell close to them can improve how the force is distributed and help it stay in the suspension instead or upsetting and flexing the cars body. The front alum brace made a considerable difference in this regard.

So, my previous concern is in blue. Which, although the design isn't the best, I concluded maybe there isn't enough force to bend the top bar at the green circle stress point. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. Either way, the design isn't smart, given the way force is applied. In the new image, force won't even make it that far though, due to the flimsy 90 degree bracket for the lower mounting point. The bracket will bend before force make it that far. The bottom horizontal bar only exemplifies the problem, by giving the direction of force a further degree of stress, rather than if it was just the diagonal bar. Either way, the bottom bracket is weak. Therefore, the top bar is the only piece of this brace that has any structural rigidity. Depending on how it's mounted, of course. But I'm ignoring how it's mounted and assuming it's mounted in the best way possible. So am only looking at the design of the brace itself. I would not use this in my car. It's a waste of metal and weight. |

One reason I'm curious and thinking so much about this is because I've been exploring making my own out of carbon tubes and aluminum brackets. Maybe what I wanna do isn't even cost effective compared to what's already out there. So far, I've looked at carbon tube prices online. I still have to find a fabricator that can weld aluminum to talk to about this. I know also the aluminum needs to be heat treated after it's welded to make it t6. Any welding of t6 reverses the heat treatment so it needs to be retreated after welding. |

I am waiting to order all the rear sound deadening pieces before removing the interior panels and doing both jobs at the same time.

Oh, I didn't know other people were interested. I'll ask my race mechanic tomorrow if he knows any fabricators I can speak to about it. Pretty sure the aluminum pieces I need can be sourced from a parts catalog and modified/welded to work. So I really just need someone to weld aluminum, heat treat the alum, and press the carbon tubes into the alum brackets.
