Not a mistake. You can't get individual paint on the M2 unless you're very high up. Hence the price.
that color in particular is what I'm referring to, it's never $24k. I'm fully aware of the individual program and not new around here. I'm sure if tou ask the right people it can be done for not a ridiculous amount
It's 24k because individual paint is not possible in the Leipzig factory. It goes to a different factory to get painted on a different line. Extra cost comes from the shipping and logistics of that
Because the M2 isn't built at the ///M GmbH factory like all other ///M cars?

At the end of the day it's f*cking silver like half the other cars on the road... if I'm $24k into a paint job it should blow people's minds!!

I went individual Santorini blue on my e92 m3 and it was $12k but included a bunch of blue interior accent stitching and some black chrome exterior parts

It is costly but at least they are giving people the option to order an individual color. It would be interesting to see how much it would be to do the car in Estoril Blue.I would assume it would be quite a bit less because the color has always been available for the 2 series which is manufactured at the same Leipzig plant.

With $24k, I would spend it all on M performance parts.
Yes, it was cheaper at $10,000.

Why is this taking advantage of people? If legitimate, it was probably a request by the customer, and he was probably told no at first, but pressed the issue. Once it comes down to "this is how much it will cost", the customer apparently said yes. If it's something he really wanted, knew going in what it would cost and he has the money and is willing to pay for it, then nobody was taken advantage of.

Could be wrong but I don't even think Porsche, the king of huge add-on costs, charges that much for custom paint ...?

Seems laughably ridiculous

M cars are built alongside regular cars in their respective factories. The E34 M5 was the last hand-built car manufactured by BMW M GmbH in Garching, a suburb of Munich.

And Santorini Blue is a fantastic color so I am certain your E92 M3 was absolutely beautiful.

The car is painted at Leipzig, only plastic parts like bumpers, door handle are painted at Munich and shipped back to Leipzig for reassembly.

That is the most reasonable explanation so far albeit still steep for added logistics.
It's more than just logistics though. The manufacturing lines are designed so that the cars don't leave it until they're ready. Having to take out the naked car body from the production line, to be painted, just to be put back in the production line complicates things thoroughly. Pretty sure it comes with serious interruptions to the lines. Add that to the fact that the paint shop would have to be separately modified to incorporate the M2 as well.

Instead of the individual paint, I would just buy a Porsche 996 to have on the side along with the M2.
