I was driving home today and I heard an alert tone and a message popped up on my dash. At first all I read was "dangerous situation" and thought maybe something was wrong with the car. Only after reading the message more carefully and looking at my iDrive did I notice it was an alert that a car was on fire 0.5 mile up the road.
I tried taking a pic of the iDrive message but since I was driving, wasn't quick enough. The message went away after about 20 seconds. It was actually pretty interesting and it was the first time I've ever seen this type of message. I just wanted to share and see if anyone else had similar experiences.

We get this all the time in our F80 in the DFW area. Comes with the territory given the amount of accidents here a day.

It's a traffic alert. For some reason I no longer get a chime when that pops up. Anyone know how to enable it?

I like it as well - I was just taken by surprise since this was the first time I saw it. My E46 is basically analog compared to this car.

Do you have to be navigating somewhere thru GPS to see this or does it come up regardless? I haven't seen it yet, and lord knows I see a ton of accidents on Chicago tollways.

In our F80 it comes up whether you are on nav or not. Usually on the road your traveling on.

I saw this too the other day. The alert is designed in a way that the first time you see it, for a moment, it isn't immediately clear which vehicle is on fire.

I was using Waze when this alert showed up, so it doesn't seem to matter if you're using BMW's nav or not.

That's exactly the message that was on my screen. There are accidents around me all the time that show up in Waze, but this was the first time an alert popped up about an accident via iDrive. I wonder if it depends on the severity (fire, multi-car, etc).

I'm so glad you brought this up, OP. I just saw this message a few days ago too and it scared the crap out of me.
I had just recently flashed my car to the Stage 1 map, so I was afraid that something had gone wrong. I was driving and this is my first BMW, so I'm not super fluent with what/where everything is and by the time I had gotten to a stopping point, the message was gone. I thought I had read "disaster" on my cluster and I think I saw "fire" on the idrive, so I was panicking like crazy. haha |

Anyone know how I clear this message from the cluster? Pressing the stalk removes it temporarily but then it pops right back up again. Even long after the danger is gone, even long after I've driven past the place.

Shouldn't that message said: "Telsa" vehicle on fire? |

I have had the message "Debris on roadway" or something like that. Once there actually was half a bumper in the road. The other times it was accident debris on the side if the road. The message eventually just goes away on its own.
