M Town needs manuals

M Town came to Charleston today. I got signed up in advance to drive the M2 Comp and M5 comp.

Maybe my expectations were too high. Was kind of a let down. I forgot how boring paddles and dual clutches are.

Cars both had GREAT power, but not much driver engagement without three pedals. Sigh. That is all.

Yep if the M2C was DCT only I'd pass. Glad to see they put the 6MT in the M2C and CS.

Ditto. What really amuses me are the people who bitch about performance cars not having MT's anymore but then get automatic when they have an MT option for a car that offers either auto or MT.

Makes zero sense.

Since I have another manual car, if I had a chance to reorder I'd pick DCT. Would love to be able to shift from 1st to 2nd during a powerslide! DCT can be fun if it's on the right car.

The DCT paddles are just a rung on the ladder towards the inevitable "Alexa Upshift"

I did the M Track Days last year. All the M cars were DCT there also.

Lame looks like the X3M is really being delayed
It was a good event. Great staff, nice opportunity to drive a few BMWs I wouldn't normally drive.

To be honest, why would BMW put manual gearboxes in this event? All that would lead to is a lot of fried clutches at their expense.

I like the idea of having a manual M2C so people who want to give a manual BMW a try. However, i agree on people burning clutches.
