Any reason to go 20s over 19s on M2?

I'm getting ready to change the wheels and tires on my 2018 M2. Any reason to go to 20s rather than 19s on the wheels? I'm thinking of going up to 255/275 on the tires on Brixton wheels.

Thanks for the feedback.

In my opinion, no. Especially on a small car like this that is known for its great handling, 20" wheels will just add unnecessary unsprung weight. The car will accelerate slower, stop slower, and handling will suffer. I like the idea that wheel diameter should only be as large as necessary to clear the brakes.

but these just barely clear the brakes and not by enough to prevent damage via gravel getting between barrel and caliper.

A big factor IMO is the local road conditions as 20" wheels on low profile tires have trouble handling even medium size pot holes without damage. Then you have considerations as said above in degraded ride quality, added weight, etc. Since yours is a 2018 and doesn't have the bigger brakes on the M2C I really don't see any advantage of 20's unless you really want the looks.

Good point. But maybe there are quality 19" wheel options to be had whose design allows better clearance of the calipers.

What you should do is put 18s on it with beefy tires.. none of this 20s blingy business. The ride is harsh enough, 20s will make it unbearable. Make the car better, not worse. Going down a size made me fall in love with the M2 all over again. Remember that you bought a drivers car, not a curbside showpiece.

can't do that on the M2C - won't clear brakes

Went the 666m route for a couple months before dropping back to 19". It's noticeably harsher on 30 profile tires.
