Hey OP,
Like some of the other members suggested, instead of opting for the BMW's extended warranty, you can instead get Geico, which offers Mechanical Breakdown insurance for roughly under $50 for 6 months, depending on your rate tier. I remember Geico use to offer the tightest rates for riskier states like CA and NY but now those same states opted to now allow insurance underwriters from factoring in a person's employment and credit score, as risk characteristics, which Geico used to weigh heavily on for they risk assessment. This causes the base rates to be much higher than what they could of previously offer prior to this change. Try them out and check out this thread, I've had a positive experience with Geico's MBI.. https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=23193072 |

How is BMW with regards to mods? I have never owned a BMW beyond its warranty time frame. My last one was an 07 E92 335 and it was a CPO car. The tranny started to leak and it would of been a $3k repair so I was glad the car had the warranty. Only mods I had on the car were KW coils.
One other thing to consider is everyone knows themselves on how they treat their cars. Some people beat the crap out of them and the probability of something breaking higher. So anyone chime in where they had they had an issue with a warranty claim with a dealer with regards to mods? |

So me one statistically significant source that show this is a rampant issue. Then show my ANY source that show the "fix" works and saved someone. Seems most people agree the fix "should" work but of course there is ZERO proof!

What is the chance that YOU feel you'll need it and how noid are you? Otherwise put the money in a liquid investment as an emergency fund and hopefully it will grow. |

My philosophy is that anything anyone offers you is a moneymaker for them and a loss (most of the time ) for you. It’s a bet. The only way to win is for something major or a set of minor things to go wrong in the window between your normal coverage and the extended coverage period. If you have a good mechanic (and cheap) or can DIY the odds are heavily in your favor if you skip the warranty. If you don’t then yeah you are providing more profit to the dealer and warranty company for peace of mind on something you may never use.
I bought one once. Never again and I’ve never had issues under 100k miles that would have been covered by warranty to the point of seeing a return. Then again the car I got it on I sold at 14k miles the other cars from bmw one is at 33k the M2c has HPFP go bad at 40 miles and the x3 the only one over 100k miles and that’s had about 2k in repairs between standard and extended window and they wanted 4500 for extended. Another 1500 job after a 100k |

Never a extended warranty for me. If I felt I really needed it I wouldn’t buy the car. This is why I don’t buy Ferrari or RR anymore. Depending on how strapped you are with cash, you can always keep a BMW maintenance savings account as mentioned above. You will always come out ahead with you managing your own money.

Many years ago, I read an article that basically said... never buy an extended warranty on anything, and more money will be saved by not buying the warranties, than is ever spent repairing the products bought.
I haven’t bought an extended warranty since. |

I bought it. I negotiated 84,000 miles / 7 years for $2k with PDR coverage.
For that price, it was worth it for the peace of mind. |
