Mirrors don't fold automatically...

Hi all,

I just picked up my new M2C from London and one thing I noticed is that the mirrors don't fold in automatically when you lock the car. It seems you have to push the button inside the car to fold the mirrors in before you lock up. This seems a bit of an effort to remember to do this all the time. I am guessing this is a fix for Bimmercode or can you fix this in the normal car settings? I had a look but couldn't see an option iDrive to fix this.

Cheers,

Karl

So many people in traffic were looking at the car

Has to be coded with bimmercode or ESYS. Doesn't fold mirrors with comfort access or key from the factory.

Thanks Andrew. I thought it might be a Bimmercode job.

Wait does US spec even fold automatically, or are they completely manual?

Sorry didn't realize it was a feature that worked from the factory in the UK. In the USA it needs to be coded in.

They fold automatically when you push the button next to the door mirror controls.

They just don't fold automatically when you lock and unlock the car unless you code that feature in.

Yes, It folds automatically in all older BMWs in the ROW beside the US..

Never really figured out why that is..

However, the new US spec BMWs have auto-folding mirrors stock and even lets you disable it in the iDrive 6/7 :

It's being touted as a "feature" in some US spec BMWs now..

I guess the US M2C has not earn the privilege of this hidden feature..

Funny, the first time I saw auto-folding mirrors was in a 1996 JDM spec Integra Type R.

All vehicles in Japan have auto-folding mirrors because there very limited parking spaces over there, so cars park closer to each other in public spaces.

Karlos, how's the Car?

Yep just hold the button to fold. These mirrors don't fold in much anyway...

You can code the delay time to zero so they fold straight away. I've coded it to 0.5 secs so it's quicker if it want them to fold.

Doughboy,

Car is good, but I can't really blast it just yet until break in. Think I am going to do three tanks of petrol and get it serviced at 900 miles. Feels good with the power I am able to use. I can understand why people all of a sudden think that more power is released once they have the first service complete. It's just a placebo though. As soon as you have the whole rev range to play with it's bound to feel instantly more amazing.

Coding it to close quicker sounds good. I don't want to have to keep holding the clicker for two seconds to fold the mirrors (not that they fold by that much). What bluetooth adaptor do you use for the OBD port?

+1 on this. I saw 90's Sonatas and other Hyundai's with this when I visited Seoul years ago. It's a must have to deal with those super narrow streets!

This. Compared to my 2015 x1, the M2C mirrors fold in maybe half as much.

Also, no fog lights (kept looking for the button LOL), rear windows totally static (coming from 2005 M3, kept looking for buttons again LOLLL). But I digress...

Three tanks of petrol at 900 miles?! Good luck with that

You'll be visiting the petrol station frequently

Enjoy the car! I've got almost 3k on mine right now and loving it

Ha, ok, maybe 4 tanks 😁
It will be a bit of a shock having to fill this up way more than my diesel estate, but I knew it would be thirsty.

I came from a diesel as well and I'm still in shock of how many times I need to fill up.

Definitely not a commuting car

This car definitely won't be used for general commuting. Although I am driving it to Germany In April for a road trip so I foresee many trips to the petrol station

It's one of a few recommended by bimmercode for android, and it comes with its own generic diagnostic & dash software / phone app that I also use on other vehicles, so it is pretty multipurpose.

http://bimmercodeapp.com/adapter/

No issues with bimmercode, nice fast reading and writing, foolproof setup, leds to show link-up and read/write etc...
