I just sent them a contact form requesting a set for Brembo BBK 6pot front 4pot rear... do you know if they can do that?

It depends on the pad shape. If you know the shape OR the pad itself that should help narrow down the answer.

Are we just pre-ordering the fronts since the rear are marked in-stock?

The rear pads are a generic shape and so I believe they can get those anytime.

The fronts are BMW specific and must be created. They get batches of 10 from the manufacturer hence the 10 minimum we are trying to reach before they put in the order.

They shipped out the rear order already. So just waiting on the fronts.

Gonna put these on with the stock pads for my first track day.

I’ll probably end up fading the brakes still heheheheh

Although the pads themselves probably will fade simply from the material used I am still curious how well the shims will help with heat transfer on stock pads.

I can confirm the rears indeed shipped out for me as well. So we just need more people to get the fronts.

Yeah pad fade is manageable. A flat pedal due to fluid boiling over is not.

Good news, they put the cut orders in for the fronts! They also asked for extra sets. Should be about a 3 week turn around.

Sorry but I have to ask...is a thin shin really going to help or is this snake oil

I am unfortunately not an expert in thermodynamics or alloys so I can't really say scientifically how much of an impact it will have.

Titanium is something like 10 time better insulator than aluminum and stainless is probably 20-30% more than Titanium. If you combine the two you are netting something (whatever it is) and the stainless pistons are already there so I wouldn't jump to snake oil.

My main goal is to keep the radiant heat from the pad backing away from the piston boots. The slight decrease in piston temp (not boiling fluid) is an added bonus, but to what degree I don't know.

But why ti and not ss? No clue, are there stainless shims available and would they be more or less expensive?

So the major advantage of titanium pistons are they resist thermal heat more so than steel.

I always assumed they were titanium in the CCB to reduce weight, I never figure it also helped with heat deflection. I can see how that can be helpful on hard-core track usage.

Cool stuff, thanks; you learn something new here everyday..

Yes I believe carbon ceramic setup has ti pistons and the 2NH truck brakes have stainless (both produced by brembo iirc). Probably more for weight though as you pointed out as every ounce matters out in the corner of the car.

If you ever boil water in a stainless pot vs aluminum you can see the difference in speed to boil.

Aluminum actually cools down faster but they usually pit and is generally sub par material for caliper piston anyway. I think Centric makes a ton of these pistons and is who I got mine from when rebuilding any E30 calipers. I always try to get stainless where I can.
