I have a signed buyer's agreement for a jan-feb allocation. If they change model year and bump the price, I guess I'll be giving it up, unless the dealer is willing to stick to the agreement. I guess we have to see how big the increase is, but I bet it'll be more than 500 dollars, which is all I'll personally tolerate on principle.

Totally agree with you here. If it's anything more than a $500 increase, I wont bother

Its been dropping for years now, I just haven't kept up on the current residuals..

Around 2010, the most appealing part of a BMW was their dirt cheap lease rates, like 65% residual on 3 years, 15k miles, for some cars.. You could of been hood-rich and still be able to afford to drive a new Beamer for a few hundred dollars a month..

I know BMW took a bath on inflated residual after that and is now coming back down to earth, ever since ..

So I guess you're right, I was just going off old information, from the last time I checked..

Yea, check this out - I think BMW is no longer in the business of giving away cars

M5 (2018MY)
15k miles / 58% residual
12k miles / 59% residual
10k miles / 60% residual

$1000 lease credit
$2000 loyalty (lease/apr)
M5 and M5 Competition (2019MY)
15k miles / 47% residual
12k miles / 49% residual
10k miles / 50% residual

I’m super confused, can someone please enlighten me? I keep seeing people who got their car back this year claiming they have a M2C 2019 and now this thread stating that in 2019 it will be 2020, what’s the deal with it?

In North America, our model years often do not match the calendar year - so starting in March of 2019, BMW will be making the 2020 M2 - at least for us here in North America. I believe it is different depending on the country you are in.

I see, so I suppose something similar to here in UK where first semester '19 plates are available only from March till September and second semester after that... I guess :-)

It's exactly that! So any one that got a car this year has a MY19 car all the cars being built in 2019 from feb onwards will be MY20. Just like our plate system. 😀

I'm am guessing that they'll be a few minor upgrades like the BMW PA system where basically you and control the car via saying "Hey BMW" then saying said command. I only guess this because when they released a video for it a 2 series featured in the video and the video was tilted coming in 2019.

Thanks for the explanation. I placed an order the other day and have been told I'm looking at a March build slot. Doubt it'll mean anything different for me though in Australia.

It could; you'll just have to wait and see if BMW does any changes. Often when they do an early year model year switchover (always done in March), it is because of some production changes. In the US, they change the official "model year" of the car in such a case (at least in the past).

For example, when the 2011 E9x M3 model year was started, it was March 2010. Many changes were done at that time ranging from engine bearings to numerous of changes. In September of 2010, they did a number of additional changes/updates (hence the common "2011.5" designation you might see in reference to 2011 M3s).

Hence I would suspect there will some changes/updates forthcoming in March production onward....we'll have to wait and see.

I guess I'll get a MY19 then, my new build slot (previous order got cancelled luckily) is 5th of Jan and the car should be ready by the 8th of Feb. But I'll get a 19 plate.

The 2019 BMW M2Cs are being built until the end of February 2019 - the OP's picture shows this.

The 2020 BMW M2Cs are going to be built starting in March -allocations will probably go out in January.

I heard that production for the F22/87 is ending earlier that previously mention, like 2021 being the final model year, have any information on that?

Oh goody,

That must mean they're probably in like the gestation stage of developing the brand new generation of G87 M2s..

Can't wait to see what they do with it and what motor they decide to shoehorn in that small chassis..

Test mules should be running around by this time next year..

I really hope that the size stays where it is - there should be a small, RWD coupe in BMW's lineup, always.

And I don't mean smallest series number. actually small enough to toss around like the 1M/M2/M2C are.

EDIT - aren't we decently sure that the car will come with a detuned version of the S58?

That's supposed to debut in the X3M/X4M first, then the G80/G82, then the M2, right?
