I can confirm that an alignment is performed when the rear diff is replaced. I had my recall completed on Tuesday. I will post my specs over the weekend.

What happened to your rear diff?

Rear diff R&R doesn't affect alignment though unless the subframe had to be moved around.

Toe misalignment you will get some feathering on the tread either inside or outside depending on out or in.
Camber you will be dependent on how much g you load the suspension with on average. So a good track alignment (more negative camber) might wear the inside if driven on road for many miles. (or wet track).
I just came back from a tarmac rally and found perfect wear for the set up I had in the dry but in the wet I was scrubbing the inside fronts. Less grip.

Looks like the tech is trying to get paid as much as possible under warranty.

They should be able to drop the diff right out without removing the subframe (or any of the control arms attached thereto).
Had the rear diff replaced last week. Wheel alignment was done. Initially was told not necessary but on my insistence they looked at the the BMW work sheet and it is there!

Wheel alignment done. Rear toe was slightly off: left -0.03' right +0.01'. target is +0.08' range is +0.2' to +0.12' Rear toe reset to 0.08" right and left

It looks ok except your steering wheel likely not centered, the total toe in the front is ok.

Comfort mode makes no difference, our cars don't have active suspension. Maybe you previously had more toe in front so now it feels more floaty. You'll get used to it, don't run more toe.
