I was going to keep mine forever. But then the CS came out. So I will be keeping that one forever. I look forward to driving it when I'm 75 and outraging the youngsters in their electric things.

I don't think youngsters will know how to drive any vehicles in the future.

Kinda depends on the Tesla no? (or if there are corners.)

The fast Teslas are very fast, and the slow ones are stillpretty fast. But the M2 isn't slow by any means.

Nah. Tesla's are nice and fast no doubt, but I think a driving enthusiast does not compare an M car to an electric one. It's not about 0-60, but the driving experience. Maybe I'm not in the majority but that's how I feel. :

Yes agreed! for me at least, it's about how the car makes you feel when you go for a drive.

We have a dual motor model 3. It is fast and well balanced. However it has a sterile, disconnected feel to it. It's my wife's daily. It is impressive in its own way, but it's not a drivers car. It ain't no M2C!!!

You missed the point. Outrage at having something that makes a noise and uses petrol.

Racing people off at the lights holds no interest for me and hasn't done since I can remember.

My business partner has one of the fastest Model S variants. He loves to race whenever we happen to be on the highway together. His car is faster, but the story always ends with him having to slow to 55-60 to actually make it home.

Challenge him to 10 trips down the strip with the winner of the averaged times getting the other's car like the old days pink slip contests (then sell the thing). The Tesla dies pretty quickly by run #3 where it's only turning 14 sec 1/4 mile times on it's way to high 15 sec times with its 0-60mph having fallen to as slow as 7 seconds by the 6th run.

Hard to answer for me. I usually turn over cars every 2 years. I bought a brand new 2003 Mustang Cobra SVT and I even traded that in after 1.5 years. None of the cars I have owned in the past spoke to me like this car does. I absolutely love this car and it is the best Whole Package Car I have ever driven/owned. This is my first BMW. I have coveted the M3 for years, but it was always outside of my financial realm. Fortunately for me, over the years this has changed. I find myself already reading about the new M3. So, time will tell for me...

I had always planned on having my M2C for a year or two and then trading up to a G80 M3, but now that European Delivery has shut down I don't think I'll be getting the G80. I don't like the looks (or weight of the G80) but European Delivery alone was enough to sell me on it (I also wanted a sedan but the F80 was out of production to do ED so I went with the M2C).

Now that I've put over 30,000km on my M2C (mostly on road trips) and have invested a little in some mods, I feel like I'm going to keep this thing for a very long time...

I *really* wanted an E92 M3 in the worst way. Same with the E46. I would buy one right now if I had the chance and the car was treated well and only had one owner. That is becoming a rare occurrence and some of the pricing reflects it.

But when those cars were new on the lots, I had little kids that needed car seats, and I needed a commuter to pile miles on, and that was the real deal killer. I can't cope with heaping miles on a car that I love so much, so I just went without. Things changed for me as well, and I saw my opening for this car, so I went for it.

Same here with the 2003 Cobra. That is why I got rid of it so soon. Lightly modified Cobra with 458 RWHP was not a very good commuter car (gas mileage sucked) and getting the kid in and out of the back seat everyday was a pain. Not to mention the kid footprints all over the back of my seats!!!

Heh, a friend of mine DD'd that exact car, very similar power numbers.

He finally sold it and bought a new mustang GT last year, which is apparently a billion times easier to live with.

Awaiting delivery of my SOM2C in the next 2 weeks, and already my plan is a keeper.
This car will be a future classic. Been driving BMW’s for over 20 years now, and this is the first performance model I will have owned. I do less than 8000 miles per year, so won’t be too sore on the car
Looking forward to ownership

When the M2 came out I knew it was time to jump back into a M Car.

I wanted the S55 motor (lots of track days for me) and of course the 6 spd.

My M2C is going to eventually end up more as a track oriented car in about 2-3 years.

Unlike the M3 & M4CS models I also feel the M2CS will end up being a very sought after car down the road. As will to a lesser degree any 6 spd m2.

I am intrigued with the G87 platform. Everything I'm hearing is it will be based off the Z4/Supra (G29) chassis with of course the S58 motor.

IF that cars weight is kept in check I might make the jump over, but somehow I don't see that in the cards.

I'm in the "keep it for a long time" camp for the most part...unless...they sell the G81 touring in the "core" form with a 6MT.

I'm in EU and if G81 manual is offered I may have to spring for it as it will be a hoot and rare as rockinghorse sh*t.

Thanks for everyone comments!

I'm leaning towards keeping it but I DD it & only following the CBS.

For those keeping, what regular maintenance work will you be doing to ensure its longevity?

One of the reasons I went with the M2C was due to its relatively uncomplicated nature. A car's electronics is always where many of the problems lie. In this case, the F87 generation is much less cumbersome in terms of what it has. Next, the engine and transmission as been around for awhile, so I hope the gremlins have been sorted out.

In BMW's entire current lineup, I think the M2C is as basic as you can get.

When I'm driving this car during the summer, or just staring at it from most angles, I'm entirely happy with it. But. After a good spirited drive, I consistently have moments of "I should have gotten a manual". The DCT is brilliant but 7 and a half years past my last manual car, with so few manuals still available, the draw is strong. Very strong.

I've put a lot of money into this car (exhaust, the PPF cost, actual payments on the car, a few stereo bits purchased, and the fact that I have three sets of wheels for it) so it's difficult to think about letting it go. And I am absolutely in love with this car's chassis and fun/speed balance. I have near-zero desire for anything faster since I can barely ever use the full power of this car, so that's not an issue.

If I could do an even trade with a manual version, I'd probably do it. As it is, despite the horror show front end, I'm probably going to look at the new M3. One last manual, but with the modern features that wouldn't be there if I bought something manual and used.

Or not. I've gotten annoyed that I didn't get a manual before with this car and I've gotten over it before. I can't discount the possibility that 5 years from now I'll still own this car.
I think you'll get the MT g80. It will be too big though and and no AWD do then you buy a MT Porsche Carrera 4s, but the reduced seating capacity and storage is noticed frequently and your significant others's "I told you so's" are really dragging on you, so then you look into an older e90 m3 with a MT, it's not too big, not too small, normal trunk, and it's got a V8! but it's hard to find a good example now, all the decent ones are as much as a new car and you feel bad for putting miles on and you SO hates the old tech, ugh. So you resign yourself to something more practical, something different than before, something that saves the environment, something that's not a two a boosted two or four cylinder, a Tesla.

Now you're old. What you really wish at this point was you bought more Tesla stock twenty years ago so you could buy and keep four cars you kind like but kinda don't like, that your SO really hates, but you bought the big house with the huge garage and they use the Audi self driving A to B and back again SUV appliance you paid for so they can STFU.

But you didn't buy the Tesla stock 20 years ago, just the new Tesla model J wagon and it's booooooring. Giving in to midlife crisis you wonder about prices for a used MT M2C, but it's too expensive as an additional car, so you add a "cheap" used 2020 MT Mazda Miata ragtop to your fleet.

Anyway, let me know if you're going to sell that DCT M2C, would be nice to get one that's PPF'd already with some lighter wheels.
