m2 cs does not have aluminum fenders
Greatings to the CS fans, I am new to the forum and have a m2 cs for 2 years now, best car I ever owned in terms of usability.
A quick fun fact, I have read all what there is as tech document on the m2 the m2 comp the CS and the S55… one thing that stroke me is the use of aluminum front fenders in the original m2, the cs with weight reduction in mind should have the same, however my front fenders are magnetic, that’s how I figured out its not aluminum. Why would bmw not have saved some kg in the front to further move the mass split to the back ? Maybe to make it a better drift car 😂? |

The fender is tiny, no real weight to be saved there. If they were interested in weight savings they have much lower hanging fruit, like the seats (which they didn't actually address in the G series, they're still heavy as hell). De-contenting was the way to weight savings, but they didn't want to make their posh buyers cry.

Their major weight saving project was done by *insert sarcasm here* removing comfort access from the CS...

Lol I've gotten used to it now but it's the biggest option I miss from my m4. The 360 cameras were nice but can definitely live without them. Same with the HUD. What all is steel on the m2cs? Front fenders, doors, rear quarters and trunk? On the m4, if I'm not mistaken, I believe only the doors were metal and everything else was either aluminum, cfrp or plastic (bumpers)

1. My 2018 LCI fenders certainly aren't aluminum, and the jig would have to be different from steel because of the way aluminum retracts differently. 2. Cost. 3. Insurance cost. 4. Part numbers are the same between 2016 and 2018, 2019 and on. 5. No mention of this in any of the BMW literature that I can find. 6. Any weight advantage wouldn't be appreciable. |

before doing alu. fenders, BMW should/would have done an alu. hood as they have done on previous M cars.

They make CF fenders for the F87 but at that price, I'm ok they weren't factory.

I'm sure somebody smarter than I could calculate the weight savings and resulting increase in performance and ROI as a result.
Going fast is expensive. How fast do you want to spend?
