Talking Questions on Ride and Cross-Country Drive

View post on imgur.com

Picked up this awesome 2017 OG M2 with Exec Package, Ceramic Coat, Vossen 20 in wheels / tires, some vinyl wrap and adjustable K&W suspension (stock suspension came with the car but not the stock tires).

I’m so excited and happy about buying this car; it is truly a riot to drive. Had a couple questions as I’m considering driving it cross-country and would love to hear opinions.

1. Do you all think the ride quality / compliance of suspension over bad roads will change significantly if I were to change one or all of the suspension / wheels / tires and which one of those changes would most change it towards a bit more compliant ride? I love the look of the Vossens and they seem good for performance but I’m looking to DD the car a bit more (was not owner’s primary).

2. This kind of depends on the answer to the first but is it dumb to drive the car cross country? The car is def bumpy on the crappy roads in NJ where I am and I’m not sure if it’s just from never really driving a car like this but are these bumps / occasional potholes damaging the car? Would putting 3.1k miles on it hurt the value more than just trying to Uhaul drive it or even hire a shipping company (but tbh I don’t want to give keys to anyone…haha).

Appreciate all the help and advice!

20 inch wheels definitely give you a harsher ride. 18 or 19 inch wheels with Michelin PS4S tires would give you a much more comfortable ride.

I would drive the car across country. This car is made to be driven. Have fun getting to know your car.

19" wheels and ps4s will be a good start.

20" wheels, ouch!

I picked up mine (brand new) in DC yesterday afternoon and tonight I am in Little Rock as the last stop before back home.
Will be at 1400 miles by the time I get home and scheduled the first service Tuesday morning.
Awesome 1100 miles so far!

Your best bet is 18 inch wheels with 2xx/40/18 tires.

Adjust the KW to the suggest setting.

I wouldn't worry about the miles

In case anyone was interested I ended up road tripping with the car and it's been a dream so far. Even on the 20in wheels / tires it's honestly not too bad road noise / compliance wise on the highway once you get up to higher speeds, and the M2 is soooo fun to drive in canyons / twisty roads. Drove up Bryce Canyon at night and once I drove back the other way in the morning, was kind of scared at how fast I had driven the night before given the steepness of the canyons...M2 made it a breeze though.
